Howdy All:

Clint's been nice enough to let me tag along on the trail rides with the club for the last few years. This here's my "new" ride....His name is "Buck."

1972 Ford F-250 4X4
Rancho 3" springs and RS5000 shocks
35" BFG All-Terrains
390 c.i. Ford FE
NP435/NP205
Dana 44/Dana 60 limited slip/4.10 gears

He needs a little work, but he's got the makings of a good cowboy truck.

See y'all later,
Cowboy Dennis

A 72 F250 with the 390? That's a GREAT cowboy truck! The old Fords I drove were column shift. Are you lucky enough to have floor shift? Or do you search the tree too?

I like the storage locker on the passenger side. Do you have one of those on the driver's side too?

Shifting on the floor is more convienent but it's more fun on the tree.

 shifting on the floor in a pickup truck gives you that big rig feel  Why on earth would you want to shift on the column???

I geuss I am a little biased because of prom. I had my dad's '62 Galaxie convertible which is a 3 on the tree. The linkage jammed and I had to crawl underneath it to knock it loose. Thank god the tux was a rental! My date was really impressed (right...)

I love the old Fords. My brother, who is about 13 yrs older than me, had a few of those when I was just starting to drive. They are truly awesome trucks he had 2 '78 F250s and a '79 F350(beast) in that order. All were lifted and ran 36's. Ever since I wanted one.

Wasn't that the "camper special" that got that tool box in the bed ? sure is a nice truck...(im a Ford Truck man myself...)

My father had a 79 F100 w/ 351 V8...that thing cooked ! light and fast and handled like a shoe box on wheels! Get the rear end light in a corner and steer with the gas .....ahhh high school was fun 8)

I used to own a 1989 F150 with the 300 straight six and 5 speed manual. That thing was indestructible. It was only two wheel drive but I still took it out to play in the fields. It lasted a year before I traded it up to a 1998 chevy blazer. Never once broke down except with my step mom/step sister blew up the transmission trying to shift into reverse at highway speeds. I once hit a log at 40 mph or so, instead of stopping the truck-the F150 just went airborne. People tell me I got the front end 4 feet off the ground...didn't break

Howdy All:

Yep, it's a floor shift. The NP435 is a 4-speed with a granny low. The ratios in the trans are something like:
First - 6.69:1
Second - 3.34:1
Third - 1.66:1
Fourth - 1.00:1

Buck is a "Camper Special" model, and I also think they were the only ones that came with a storage box on the passenger side.

I'm not too worried about anyone snaking the Dana 60 out from under him. I use the high-pinion Dana 44 in the front as a decoy to keep Jeep guys from looking at the 60.

I've always liked the older trucks too. I can't fill up at a gas station (something I do a lot) or stop at a burger joint without someone coming over and saying "nice truck!" or "I used to have one just like it" or something like that.

See y'all later.

Hey Cowboy Dennis, Man we always love having you out on the trail with us...I know it is not as fast as the Trophy Trucks you are used to but sometimes slow is just as fun. Old Buck is looking good and we need to get that rig out on the trail soon. later...Clint

Nice truck, I want to get one soon. My brother had a 79' F250 on 35's, it had enough lift for 40's. The thing was a beast until the crank broke at the flywheel. Then we had no money to fix it. It was shame to see it go. Good luck with it.

Had my first camping experience and first drink of Mad Dog 20/20 grape and 7oz Gennesse Cream Ales in a `72 Ford F-150.....back in `81 (hs Sophomore).....all in one night (stormed the whole night. Five guys in the back of the truck bed (cap on it...leaked bad) and me and the driver up front (nice and dry). Tent leaked worse than cap.

Solid steel trucks! Very little plastic back then.

That granny gear is pretty cool. I use it every time I leave my property to go somewhere. Steep hill with loose dirt and lots of rain ruts (I call it a driveway). When it's dry, Buck will just idle up it. When it's raining or snowing, I have to put it in 4-HI.

Wasn't high school great? I had a similar experience with Southern Comfort.......at least I think it was Southern Comfort......it's still kind of a foggy blur in my mind.

See ya'll later.
