I just picked up a legit beater. 95 Pathfinder
Im going to just pound it around my house and take it mudding, but the frame is a tad to tender.
I'm going as cheap as possible. I'd like to fix this for like nothing, as I only paid $50 for the rig.
My idea is to weld some 1/8 inch thick patches, then take roofing tar, get it to about a boil so its quite thin, and then just slap it on the whole thing. I've got some tar left over, and plenty of scraps, so I could do this for free.

Any better "redneck" cheap ways of doing it?

I worked in Nissan dealership for 30 years, the Pathfinders used to rust besides the rear wheels at the frame. I had a shop that would weld a piece of steel on the side of the frame, worked ok for a cheap fix.
