A ladys husband passed away so she offered us this for $500........  I couldn't load it fast enough lol. He ran it and drove it, then parked it beside the house were it sat for a year she said. It has some surface rust and a few dents, but dudnt seem bad for the price.

Well, we are trying to figure out what year it is. The lady thought it was a 48, the insurance papers say it's a 48. But I have a ton of people telling me its an early CJ5.    From looking up some sites, and going by what they say about some of the cosmetic stuff and the engine, I'm leaning towards a CJ5. |

Throw the vin up on here I know a few places that will do a VIN search and tell you everything about the jeep. |

Ok will do. On the Jeep its so faded you cant read the VIN. But we do have a VIN on the old insurance card that was in it. Soon as I get home I'll post it. |

Hey, here is the VIN that's on the insurance card.....cant really read the plate on the Jeep. 5754356904. Its only 10 digits. I thought they were like 17 digits?????? |

My bf thinks it's a CJ5, as well. They had a CJ6a of the same general year. |

That number isn't even long enough to match to a military Cj's number well atleast not close to the same year. I would try to find a VIN plate to clean up and if it reads the same you may have something rather rare. |

Well, see I can't find a VIN on the Jeep. That's the VIN on the insurance cards they have in it. |

Found the VIN  Looked up the VIN online and according to the VIN it is a 1957 CJ5  We have it all stripped down to the frame. Taking everything apart to start replacing/rebuilding it. Think we are going to lift it 2 1/2'' and try to run 33x10.50R15's if we can get away with it.

Nice! I want to find something like that one of these days! Are you keeping the 4 banger in it? How did you end up getting it home? |

Keep it as close to stock as possible. To get it on the trailer, we just rolled it on lol. The tires were holding air fine  That was a plus when it came time to load it lol. So far we have taken the tub off the frame and have started tearing into it. Going to start by taking the frame down to the steel and painting it black. Then new suspension and brakes. We bought some of the parts already, think we will lift it 2 1/2". |
