Sleeping in the Libby???

A friend of mine suggested that I could sleep in the rear of my Libby with the seats folded down rather than pitching a tent. Has anybody done it? lets say when you arrive at the campground and discovered you didn't pack a tent :lol:

I am 6'3" and I have. Nice and easy way to camp when hunting. Helps me get out earlier. I had to sleep sideways and I was stiff in the morning, but it works, was easy and I was able to break camp in about 30 seconds.

Beware that it can get cold inside. Your much better off in a tent.

so it will get colder inside a vehicle than a tent? Rather be inside my vehicle then reach up and hit the starter, crank the heat and then wake up :wink:

Well yeah if you want to turn on the heater i'm sure you'll be fine and hopefully have enough gas to get back out..... someone I know tried to sleep in there truck it was cold they stated. They now sleep in a tent on top of the truck and it is warm.

If you have a sleeping bag you will be fine. i slept in mine down to -11C. In the summer you have to roll the window down so you don't get too hot. The KJ is very well sealed.

I used an inflatable mattress.
Comfy cozy. Especially when it started to rain.

That would work as well, but then mines too loud and would wake everyone up so no go,
I used to sleep in my Bronco down to 20 degrees or so and never a problem, have woke up a few mornings with ice covering the insides of the glass!
With my rear seat delete and flat floor, mine is very comfortable, with the rear rack I can sit the laptop up there and watch movies, just about as good as being at home :wink:

I was thinking of doing some winter camping this year. But this time i am thinking about a heater for increased comfort. Has anyone used a portable camping propane heater? You're not supposed to use them while sleeping so not sure how great they would be in subzero temps if you have to turn it off. I was also thinking of a remote car starter system rigged to a thermostat that automatically turns the vehicle on when reaching a certain temperature and then shuts it off after another temp.

I have a mummy sleeping bag that is rated to -20C but i would prefer not to have to get bundled up in it as it is tight. The remote start idea is great for someone who already has remote start but not sure it would be worth the cost to get it for just that purpose.

if its in any campground just cheat and use an electric heater, have stayed in quite a few places in the winter and never even had to pay but used their electric,
small heater, extension cord, sit the heater up in the front seat area......nice and toasty :lol:

Electric blanket! We have an electric throw blanket that would fit this bill I am sure!

Use the back for camping all the time. Have a Double Full size air matress that fits perfect in the back(54"X75"), just lay the matress out, plug the pump in and presto beds ready in seconds.

I used to do the big canoe/portage in, canoe/portage out 1-3 week long camping trips, but I'm too old for that doo doo now. These days if I can't drive the truck right up to the camp fire I aint going.

Last fall, my son took the CRD up to a lake at almost 10,000 feet. He and his buddies were camping. My son slept in the front passenger seat with it laid back, and another of his friends slept in the way back. Yes, the cargo area. The friend is a little rat, around 5 feet tall and might weight 100#. My son said they woke up around 4 in the AM gasping for breath. He thought, that with the thin air, and 2 people breathiong up all the "easy" air, they just about ran out. That should say something for the air tightness of the KJ.

Whatever you do, don't grab the wrong air mattress and grab the double thick one. that night i had about 8" between my face and the roof of the kj. :banghead:
