Post subject:  Memorial Day Weekend

Is anyone else taking advantage of Memorial Day weekend to explore the outdoors?

We're going to be Canoeing/Camping along the James River here in Virginia. We go out on Friday after work, camp somewhere, put in on Saturday morning with everything we need, and then don't see civilization until Monday around 2PM or so.

I can't wait!!!

That's funny....not wanting to deal with holiday weekend people is why we leave and go canoeing. Living at the beach...if we stayed home, all we'd be doing is dealing with the tourists, at the beach, in the stores, at the restaurants, EVERYWHERE. So we pack up and leave town as they're all packing into town. You should see the traffic jam on the one single interstate that comes into town.

I am heading up to Acadia National Park (yet again for the 12th year in a row) for a camping trip. I'll arrive on Thursday and don't head back until Tuesday, avoiding the traffic and the crowds that way. It's cold enough in Maine in late May that the crowds haven't arrived yet.
If I'm lucky, the blackflies aren't out yet!

The Arizona Gang is heading to California to run the Mojave Road over the Memorial Day Weekend. It's a 130 mile, two day adventure through the Mojave Deset. The trail runs from Barstow, CA to the Colorado River just south of Laughlin, NV.

Check out some of the links on page 1 and pictures on page 2 in this thread....

Thursday after work I will be heading to the marina (Winthrop Harbor, IL) to prepare the boat for our journey north into Bailey's Harbor, Door County, Wisconsin. Myself, a friend, my daughter and her husband will all be aboard when we get underway early Friday morning. We will return early Monday evening. I am so looking forward to that weekend. :D
