As of right now, we are considering a 3 week (camping) road trip that includes the last 2 weeks of July and the first week of August. For obvious reasons, this trip is too far out for most of us to commit to, but go ahead and signup if the projection looks possible and your interest is very high.

Kskj and I were talking over the weekend and decided that we will need to push the dates out a little further. 2014 is just too soon for us. Most likely I’ll be building my home the summer of 2014. I can’t speak for Kskj or the rest of you, but I would like to aim for a 2016 date. What do you guys think? Jayme? Cgass? yellocoyote/ihatemybike? I would like to hear your feedback.

Okay, keep posting updates in this thread and likewise I'll do the same. As long as I’m not building a home, then I’m free, lol. If all possible, I would like Kskj to go, but I'm not sure what projected year he is aiming for.

Yeah, we’re really excited about driving all the way to the Arctic Circle and seeing and doing as much as possible along the way. My biggest concern is going alone. I would feel much better if we traveled in a group.

So how many are tent camping vs. trailer camping vs. camping in the vehicle? There is no way I’m going to get my wife in a tent or soft-sided camper in grizzly country.

Four seasons tent, S&W Govner loaded with slugs and my 300 win mag. And the bears are the least of your worries most of the time I have a buddy who is on and air force base up there and he said the wolves are the ones you have to watch out for. Oh and I am in for the the 2015/2016 date.

I don't think you can a take a gun across the Canadian border. But I’m glad to see that you’re in for a 2015/2016 trip. 8)

I wonder if I could have it shipped to my buddy in Alaska because I feel that they won't be needed but are essential survival tools either way.

Yes, you can ship your gun to AK and proceed from there. Some people actually mail their gun to a post office box and pick it up once they arrive to their destination, then they ship it back home before they go back through Canada. I've spent a lot of time in the backcountry without a gun, but I haven't been in grizzly country either, lol. If we go deep into the Arctic Circle, which I plan to do, then we could be met with grizzle bear, brown bears, and polar bears. Moose can be somewhat of a danger as well. It is recommended that campers and hikers along the Dalton Highway come equipped with pepper-spray or a firearm. Gun toting is very common in Alaska, so packing isn’t a problem as long as you are following the state gun laws. From what I have read, you should never camp near Prudhoe Bay, or most of the "North Slope" (the far north Tundra area) due to the potential risks of Polar Bears.

I will be camping in a tent or the jeep depending where we are.

To keep this up-to-date, it might be easiest to add the year(s) that you’re projecting to be available and update it as it changes. I’m not going to mention names, but some of you have had life events happen since posting. Hmmmm, let’s see, one of you is expecting a baby since you last posted, one of you is having to pay for a surprise wedding since last posted, and one of you is still trying to lockdown a year. So, with all these changes, let’s revisit the drawing board and see where we all fall.

1. dieselenthusiat + wife (2015 is the most doable at this point in time)
2. cgass
3. Kskj
4. yellocoyote/ihatemybike
5. audiboy86

2015 might be still possible for us, it all depends on when this house gets built. I'm going to see what Gary has to say.
