I'm simply posting random bits of information for now and will be able to piece things together once we are about to make the final arrangements. Anyway, you might find this information helpful. If anything changes, I will edit. "Arctic Ocean Access Restrictions: Private vehicles are prohibited on the Prudhoe Bay Oil Field, which is the only access route to the Arctic Ocean. Access to the oil field and the Arctic Ocean is available only through commercial tours. In Deadhorse, call the Arctic Caribou Inn at 659-2368 or the Prudhoe Bay Hotel at 659-2440 240 miles will be the longest stretch without fuel upon the entire journey. The only fuel stations along the way enroute to Deadhorse starting from Fairbanks would be: Mile 0 - various stations in Fairbanks Mile 10 Steese Hwy (10 miles) - Fox General Store, Fox Mile 5 Elliott Hwy (15 miles) - Hilltop Truck Stop, north of Fox Mile 56 Dalton Hwy (139 miles) - Yukon River Camp, at Yukon River Crossing Mile 175 Dalton Hwy (258 miles) - Coldfoot Truck Stop, Coldfoot Mile 412 Dalton Hwy (495 miles) - Deadhorse Camp, near Deadhorse Mile 415 Dalton Hwy north end (498 miles) - Colville Tesoro Alaska, Ending Point - NANA Chevron, Deadhorse |

We're thinking about going through Montana into Canada, more specifically I-15 in Montana turning into 4 in Canada. I'm curious what everyone else is looking to do. |

After doing some research, we have decided to take our camper as far as Coldfoot. "Located halfway between Fairbanks and Prudhoe Bay, Coldfoot Camp provides an excellent base for travelers in Alaska's Arctic. Although rustic by urban standards, our Inn at Coldfoot Camp is kept clean and features private bath facilities in each of the rooms, a luxury in the remote wilderness of Alaska's Arctic." http://coldfootcamp.com/lodging.htm |

Maybe that would be a good meeting place unless you decide to take I-70 out to Utah, then we could potentially meet up there as well. So far, we are planning to drive 343 miles (6 hours) the first day and stay at the KOA in Green River, Utah. Green River KOA 235 South 1780 East Green River, UT 84525 Day 1 343 miles 6 hours and 8 min. |

Green River, UT? Do you have any idea how hard it is to not run trails when you are that close to Moab? I haven't been able to stop myself from doing so yet. |

LOL, the location is ironic, but going through Green River is the most direct route from where we live to the Canadian border. Plus, Green River seemed like a good stopping point on the map. And since we are KOA members, it seemed logical. With that being said, Sarah said that she would like to start doing more boondocking to save money as we travel. Route planning will give us a guideline to follow, but doesn't mean that we're going to stick to it like glue. You never know, Gary and Jayme may want to make Green River our first "group" starting point. |

yellocoyote wrote: How much time do you plan on allotting for the trip...? That’s a good question. Initially, I think most people were thinking 3 weeks to tackle the trip. At this point in time, we don’t know what year we’re aiming for let alone the time allotted to do the trip. Sarah said she didn’t want to do a lot of long driving days, hence why I have broken the trip up into smaller chunks. In all honesty, I’m just trying to map this trip out to give us a rough estimate on time and cost. I’m waiting to hear what others are planning to do. As of right now, 2015 is probably the soonest we could do the trip. If I could pick the dates, I would probably go the last week in June through the first 2-3 weeks in July. |

I'd love to take this trip, but throw in a few attractions along the way... Carlsbad, Grand Canyon, etc... |

I used to be a trip planner. Lately I just wing it and find its just the same. Some trips that involve my girlfriend and her boys get better planning than my solo trips. |

Thanks Jayme for posting the info. I would like to see a breakdown of Aaron's trip from Chicago to Homer. |

YC, Your one post away from 7k. I'm up in Fairbanks right now. Been in Alaska for 3 weeks for work, 1 week in Anchorage the rest up here. I've got to go to Juneau in September for a week or two. I got a chance to drive up from Anchorage a week ago. Weather was clear and got to see Mt. McKinley on the drive. I have driven out as far as Delta Junction and Ft. Greely. I'll be heading to Anchorage on Tuesday or Wednesday this week. Really enjoy the country. This is the first time I've been up here in the summer. |

Drove down to Anchorage from Fairbanks via Richardson and Glenn Allen highways. Absolutely beautiful country. Didn't realize the glaciers were so easy to see along the route. |
