I've dreamed of this too, but the Darian Gap is a logistical nightmare, and near impossible to cross with out an army of locals to clear a way and float you across the many river crossings, and an army of bodyguards to protect you from the drug cartels and kidnappers. It can and has been done but you would need to be well funded. And sadly, last a checked a few months ago, there is no ferry from panama to Columbia to bypass it. The only current option is to ship your jeep on a roll on roll off ship to S. America which is also expensive as you will need to ship it back when you're done. If a ferry ever opens up in the future I would love to do a trip like this. |

i did the trip last year for 7 months and 55k km, leaving\g from Montreal tiera del fuego i did not use my jeep but my 1995 vw camper diesel the trip was wonderful i am going back next august got another 6 to 8 months. the crossing panama Colombia is not bad just expensive around 900$ if you share container.
