Just curious, I'm a new ham and installed a mobile rig in my CRD Liberty along with a CB radio.

I monitor 146.520 on the ham radio and Channel 9 on the CB.

Here in SoCal I make Ham contacts all the time, but no CB contacts even when in Joshua Tree--so it makes me wonder, who monitors what channels on CB? In the boating world, we maintain a watch on marine VHF 16.

Since CB needs no license, I thought there'd be more people out there.

In my experience, common practice for wheelers is to use either CB channel 4 or 16 (4x4).

Channel 9 is mostly dead, unless you know Spanish
I monitor 19, which is most active
Also channel 6, aka superbowl. Where the big boys talk.

Offroad, we just pick a channel. Sometimes 4 is filled with drunks on their atvs

Channel 19 got me back home to San Marcos Tx were the flooding had many roads closed down. Talked to the truckers along the way and found what the best/fastest routes would be and that I also have a great radio voice.
