 Post subject: SFA Part list help

Ok here is the last post for me on the SFA questions. I know everyone has their part list up so i just wanted to make sure the one i make is good and nothing else needs to be added on.

Dana 30HP non-vacuum-Comes with ZJ steering, i believe already high steer-XJ model
lift kit- Using either RE LA, RK LA, or whatever i can find atm i buy them
New TW driveshafts front and rear-
Using stock rear Axle and Stock Transfer case
Extended brake lines
Need a Steering pump
using stock rims with new meat's

Anything else that i am missing.

Oh reason for stock rims is, i wont be upgrading the rims until everything is done. once it is done where doing like one to two months of savings then buying new rims with bs in them.

Let me know if this looks good and what else i might be missing. Thanks everyone very much.

The diff would be a high pinion out of an xj, not a high steer (unless made to be high steer).
You won't need a power steering pump but you Will need a steering box.

I got my list off JJs and Wally's lists. I need to add brackets or mounts for long arms to my list of expenses. Check the sticky thread for a lot of helpful info.

i know that is why i put Dana 30HP- with a high steer system already setup on it hahaha.

Ok sorry forgot springs and shocks Haha. Knew i was forgetting something.
And thanks i meant to say steering box, i don't know why i am all puckered up today.

thanks guys. I'll look at your guys list a little more. As for tabs and brackets i will have them on hand already.

You probably know this but I'll say it anyway. You put "lift kit" in your original post and any whole TJ/LJ lift kit would be a waste of money on a SFA KJ project because you'd be buying a ton of stuff you can't use and don't want. Get the control arms, front and rear. Even most mounting brackets that come with the TJ/LJ kits won't work for your application. The Nth ones are sweet but cost a small fortune and as you can see, they can be made to work. I'm not sure how you'd make the brackets from a Rubicon Express or other big manufacturer work either. I figured since I am modifying a unibody jeep, why not look at other unibody lifts to see how they mount their stuff and then buy the long arms, or build them and then mount them like other unibody jeeps do. Hope that makes sense.

Ok i see what your saying INC. Maybe a XJ lift kit well work since it is a unibody frame, or just kinda mock them up using the XJ designs of the unibody structure for the KJ. An XJ lift would work though wouldn't? I know i can buy builder kit for the LA arms from a few vendors i know.

I have been looking at WJ kits since the XJs rear suspension is completely different from a KJs, and seeing how they work. Every good or reputable manufacturer of long arm jeep lift kits sells control arms by themselves, so no need to get a kit really. All the other parts you'll need are such a frankenstein combination that a kit is unnecessary. I'll have ford, toyota, and jeep parts in my project. Most lit companies sell builder parts as well, such as mounts, crossmebers, trusses, etc.

No XJ kit will not work unless you are going to switch the rear to leaf sprung

Acutally there are XJ kits that use rear coils?. Plus i already have a 4-link that i am thinking about getting from RK. All attaches to the sub frame. The front is what i don't know yet. For lift kits where trying not to spend 3k. I can get a builders kit and make a LA way cheaper than that and pick up metal for tabs and brackets and maybe spend about 1500.

there are a few companies like rokmen, gen-right, and a couple others

RK does not make those parts anymore,they got sued big time and scraped all the plans about 3 years ago.


Oh and XJ lifts are rear leaf springs unless you go custom for the raer to go to coils or coilovers.

All of those RK 7up lifts should have been scraped.I wouldn't trust it,just my opinion.

Troy, I think he is talking about the XJ RockKrawler kits, but still check out NAXJA.com, jeepsunlimited.com, jeepforum, and do a search in the XJ sections for Rock Krawler to see what they say. I haven't done the search recently, but I have had several XJ customers that were happy at first, then less than a year later they hated it and wish they had gotten something else or had "customized" the RK kits to work better or last longer. If you want something different that has a great reputation that isn't Rubicon Express, then go with Clayton.

The Ballistic Fab parts are some of the ones I was looking at as well. I prefer the Clayton ones because they wrap around the unibody frame and the B.F. ones just weld to it. But the B.F. ones are so much cheaper.
