Looks good, but the rear axle looks a bit too far forward:

What is the grey tube behind the springs? A second shock?

Because the axle is essentially on an "arc" movement path, it will move forward as it droops (which is the state the picture shows)

Perfectly normal.

So what are those grey tubes? Extra heavy duty shocks or something?

They look like they are an extra pair of shocks. I think the RK kit has those on it and Firebland mentioned that he was retaining as much of the RK investment in the back as possible.

Good point, I wasn't even paying attention to the fact that it wasn't sitting on the ground. Thanks for reminding me to pay attention!

Tha grey tubes are 2 aditional pairs of shocks so that will leave me with 4 shocks in the back, the axle is moved forward on perpose if you see my past pictures when flexing on the back the tire rubbed against the side fenders and popped them off, now this shouldnt happen.
Will keep you posted im still suffering with the front control arms.

Ok as you know I cant find space for the springs mainly because im using a cherokee axle wich is a little shorter so im definetly going for one of these 2 options and i need youre input to see what you recomend brand model for both options.
1.- Coil overs what do you guys recomend and which springs
2.- Put 4 nitrogen shocks in the front and no springs.(what brand or were i could get them)
Thanks

Try this place, my buddie put them on his Sami Rock Crawler...It's a good write up on the Fox Air Shox. I dont know who did the write up, but it goes into pro's and con's...

I personally would go with the coil overs, mainly because rigs with coils look so good and clean. I usually see beaters with the shocks and no coils. It must be just a preference thing to me. Skyjacker has been the only coils I have ever owned and I love mine. Granted they are not a long arm kit like the one you would want, but I have buddies who run with the Skyjacker kits on their TJs and they love em! Cmon guys give fireblad some feedback! We all want to see this rig thats for sure!

Fireblad1,

So you could go the route that Larry Trim did at TrailReady and cut "spring buckets" into the unibody up front on the libby so they could fit the coil spings inside the stearing knuckles of the cherokee axle housing.

Or coil overs is a good option as well. The problem I saw with coil overs was that if I wanted to achieve the same amount of potential travel that I could with coils I would need to mount the top of the coil overs about 4 inches above the top of the hood. (yes, it would look cool, but chopping the big hole through one of the structural parts of the unibody didn't appeal to me.)

Anyway, there are many coil over options out there, my recommendation is that you go for the absolute longest one that you can possibly use. Mount the lower end below the bottom of the axle housing if possible and mount the top clear up in the vacated strut pocket.

Good luck to you,
-Adam

You don't neccessarily have to cut big holes to run coilovers. I just fabbed some hoops and put 12" travel Fox coilovers in the back of my TJ. Even with 36" TSLs, I have 4" uptravel and 8" of down travel.

Yes, I did cut the inner fenderwells when I did the front, but that was by choice. I'm sure I could have fabbed something to work within the comfines of the front inner fenderwell.

Just my .02 worth

I was thinking would a D30 from a YJ or a D44 form a Rubicon be good axles for the KJ? Heck how about a D44 from a Scout? It's about 59". The D30 is about 61" WMS to WMS and is easy/cheap to find and both are still 5x4.5. Also, how about the Ford 8.8 if one was going to swap out the rear? It's also 5x4.5 with discs in 01'+ Explorers and about 60" WMS to WMS. just thinking...

Good ideas. You would still need to figure out a way to do the upper and lower control arms as well as a trackbar, unless you are thinking of going with a leaf sprung idea.
