JJ, next time your up please take a stright edge to your axle. I was looking at it yesterday and the long tube looks bent. Might be a illusion, but i starred and starred. The axle is upside down on the jig right now, and looks to be bending down. So that would mean when its upright the tube is bent up. About 10 inches out of the housing. Quinn looked too but wasn't sure either.

Hey, I'm looking... and drooling too. But c'mon... How much are you expecting you'll have spent. If your keeping a log, make sure it states how much all your individual parts were so someone like me could get an idea of whether it's in my KJ's future!
Thanks

Hmmm....lets see .....how much $$ so far .......?????

Front & rear axles, loaded and built w/ parts listed above, crane covers, alloy axles, CTm joints, chromo drag link and tie rod w/ new WJ ends for high steer, ARB locker w/ install, relocated trac bar mount w/ trac-bar, tube seals, cryo'd & slotted rotors, rebuilt calipers w/ BRC pads, etc.
About $4,200 -ish (but worth way more $$, I got a deal)

I got the Rubicon 4:1 transfer case for about $800 (also worth more)

Driveshaft cost about $275 (discounted), need another but will run around $375

Brake lines were about $200- ish (but trade value, not cash)

$855 for tires

about $6700 so far and more to come......

Still to spend....
Nth lift should end up costing about $3500 (pure guess, comparing to the Tj lift which most of the parts come from)

Coil overs about $450 (another guess)

Belly skid. $unknown for now.

Labor...Who knows?

If you were to just use less modded axles w/out the fancy stuff and then upgrade them later (mostly how allyrand did his) you could easily save a couple grand on the axles alone.
You could also use a cheaper 231 transfer case instead of the Rubi case.

And I am sure a standard long arm lift could be put together for much less than a Nth kit. (but it Is what I wanted)

So in all, I can see it being done for less $$ than I will end up spending.

Like I have said before, You take a comparable TJ, same year, same mileage and loaded w/ options and then mod it similarily and you will have just as much into it or more. You will most likely be upgrading the diffs, adding in a lower range transfer case, big $$ lift, etc and it will cost a bundle. Building the KJ may be slightly more labor $$ intensive but the parts all cost about the same.

Getting used coilovers? You may need to add a 1 in front of that guess for a cheap set, coilovers are pricy  .

yeah....I don't know what I was thinking. They should run about $650 for the front pair and I am running coils and shocks in the rear.

Guys... that is truly amazing! I think it's totally cool but nuts too! I got thinking about it last night, you know, about the real and total improvement and my question was, just how much further will it go? Now, don't take this wrong, please. I'm just curious. I know that there should be little to compare but... BUT since there are so many of us KJers that would like to do a conversion like this, just for the sake of knowing, we should all try to get together on a real trail (ya'll may already be doing this, I don't know cause I'm relatively new), take a modded to the hilt KJ like yours or Seth's, I'll bring mine (only 'cause I think I can drive) which is very mild but well done and just wheel them together on a highly rated trail. Heck, to be honest, I don't really know what I "highly rated trail" would be. I'm just interested to see if the conversion would be worth it for me.
I recently found out that my little KJ can do alot more than I and many "real Jeepers" ever thought. Honestly, the biggest problem may have been tire size! Of course, that may be the primary reason for this conversion, to get bigger tires on (and certainly to obtain better oscellation front to back). Nonetheless, if I could afford such a conversion, I'd no doubt do it. I'm just interested in the real difference.
I will say this, I went on a Jamboree where our trail guides had some pretty tricked out TJs. This one almost walked like a tarantula over everything... save for 2 particularly interesting "switchback" trails. He was very tipsy, which took up alot of time. I, with my great turning radius and low center of gravity, simply drove up, did a 3pt turn at each end and kept moving. Had this been a little steeper, I still would've been able to traverse it. He would have been on his roof at the bottom. Again, not saying mine will compete. Just curious...

Wally's and Seth's have already wheeled with modded KJs at Moab this year. I drove Wally's over a short section just to make room while he was spotting others, that sealed the deal and knowcked me off of the fence right there. Now is just a matter of convincing the wallet... Surprisingly, the wife has not complained too loudly yet...

Got a few of the major parts, and the arms will be here next month (crossing fingers) so off it will go... My build is being spaced out and done a little different than JJ's, This way I can gradually accumulate parts and build as we go.

BTW, still no answer on the PPM from the speedo from Chrysler. The request has been forwarded to a few people and they all want pics while we build, but no answers yet. They are all out on business trips.

Any luck figuring it out on your end JJ?

For sure. We will be building a custom tire carrier to work w/ your rear bumper for sure.

What a PITA. The auto parts stores in Big Bear suck. I went looking for bearings and seals for TJ "hubs" and neither the NAPA or Carquest could get me what I needed. Another waste of time.....well except that I got to hang out in Big Bear looking for parts for a couple hours.....

Oh and I did get to see my Nth Degree parts... probably the Laast Nth parts that will be shipped out for a while...
Below are the Nth Gyro joint assy's. The ball rides in the poly bushings the threaded end treads into the long arms.
Image
This pic shows the subframe assy's. These will attach to the "frame" via a 3/8" thick strip that will run the length of the lower unibody "frame". It is stich welded to the unibody.
Image
Here are the rear axle coil buckets and control arm mount assy's. The piece w/ the Nth logo in it is the rear track bar bracket.
Image
These are the long arm assy's.
Image
About $2500 worth in those boxes.

I did also get the NP231 transfer case removed and the NV241 Rubicon case installed. It went right in like butter.
Image
Image
Image

And I got my new disc brake backing plates from Mopar ($111 ea.) and the new Mopar calipers ($75 ea)
Image
It was cheaper to buy new calipers from Mopar than to buy rebuilds due to the core chare. Napa wanted $65 per caliper and $55 per core. Since I didn't have cores it wasn't worth trying to save $10 for rebuilt calipers.

BTW, These backing plate assys are the same as what is on the KJ. I am pretty sure it would be real easy to convert form drums to late model discs on the 8.25. I will be experimenting w/ that on my XJ's 8.25 using KJ parts in the near future.

More to come soon..... Thanks for following along.

Oh and one more thing......

Guess what?

Moab wheels WON'T work w/ Warn hubs!!!! DUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

I never even thought of that but the hole in the middle of the wheel is too small for the hub to go through.

Looks like I am in the market for wheels now too. UGH!

Now should I go Bling! 8) Bling! or just functional?

How about functional with a little Bing Bling attitude? I think your fan club would approve. Common, you’re an AMSOIL DEALER, you gotta look good as you promote the best lubricants!
