CDKJ, The mtns in the background of that one pic are the Tehachapi mtns. They are about 30 mins away. The really good wheeling area is another 15 mins North of there in our Last Chance Cyn and Nightmare Gulch area. LOTS to explore out there and a very rich mining history out there too.

Oh OK, not very far at all.

Love the shots mate, looking good.

Looks hot! I likee! Although I still like the green better than the blue ;)
I really like the high steer... why didn't I think of that. And WTH is up with 5555 posts?!?! Man, you need to go to rehab. Let me know if you want to change those rear springs out... the 864's worked for me, but mine ran that extra tire carrier and a 35... an 863 may settle the rear a little.

I finished my Dodge last week... it's way more fun to drive day to day... but I gotta admit... I miss Ole Girl sometimes. I don't miss being hassled by the man, or the MPG's... but I miss trail action.
Anyone know of a TJ with a smashed in rear end? I'm doing an AEV Brute next to tow behind the Dodge...

So back on topic..... (silly Trucks!!)

Mounted up the ARB compressor finally!
Here is the space I was working with.
Image
I removed the cruise control since I rearely use it anyway. I was working out a way to keep it but in the proces of fitting it in there I broke the dang cable assy. that bolts up to it so I gave up for now.
made a plate for it to mount on and attached it to the area that the cruise ctrl mounted plus made a bracket to support one side of it.

Now to plumb it and decide if I am going to plumb it direct or to a manifold first so I can use the compressor for airing up if needed too.
Sorry about the b&w pics, think my son was playing w/ my camera again for his art class and changed the settings.

Here's a picture of a manifold.

I just finished my York setup last weekend. Went offroad today and used it to air up - AWESOME. I can even run an impact wrench with it when the need arises. I have a 3 gallon talk plumbed into the system (not pictured). It's under my jeep, partially protected by my belly pan. The compressor shuts off at 145 PSI. My air chucks are inside the Jeep in the footwells on both the passenger and drivers sides so they don't get water and mud into them.

Not sure if anyone ever plumbs a tank into an ARB compressor, but since you have the big daddy that might be a possibility too. Without the tank it might take a long time to air up a tire as the compressor tries to keep up.

Not trying to hijack - just some ideas for you.

yeah i was just taking to one of my buddys last night about doing that. glad to hear it works good. im sure i can find somewhere to hide a tank under the KJ. i would be great to be able to air up and run air tools when on the trail.

Post subject:  Update

Info that folks have asked for: Measurements.

I have 305/70-16's which are right at 33".

Hub to flare front and rear is about 27.25"

Flare to ground is about 42.5"

Boulderbars to ground is 22.5"

There has been about 1/2-3/4" of settling since I got it home. I am expecting another 1/2 - 3/4" lower after it is in trail mode w/ spares, tools, full tank, etc.

My manifold assy for my OBA (mostly just for the ARB lockers and still more work to do on this)

Update info:
Rear springs:
Getting ready to switch in some OME 863's in place of the 864's. Hoping for a little softer ride in the rear. It did settle some but never really loosened up and still feels too firm over bumps.

Rear shocks:
The rear shocks are currently some cheapo rock crawler or similar type brand. They are about a 12" travel shock. Had to change out the 10" Bilsteins since they were Way too short for any down travel. I believe I can get about a 14"-er in there so will be measuring for that soon.

Clearance issues:
I found a spot in the exhaust that hits on the driver side on uptravel so need to try to get that fixed. Also have to cut away more of the driver side factory spring pad since it contacts the steering box/trac-bar bracket mount assy. Minor stuff but time to fix it.

Ride on road is still decent and handling is good. Steering feels very light though. No steering stabilizer so that might be part of the reason but feel is definately related mostly to the change in ratio from the rack & pinion.

More to come.....

Well, changed out the rear coils to the OME 363's which are medium duty and it is a noticeable improvement in ride. The bounce is gone and the rear feels much more stable. I need to take some ride height measurements to see if it came down any but by eyeball it looks like it did a little. Bottom line is it is an improvement that I had hoped for.

Now to dial in the rear shock lengths, rates, etc. They do feel better w/ the new springs But I know there is room for improvement on these cheapies and I have some $ from selling the other shocks I had so time to start shopping.

I thought you had 864's in the rear,for a FJ80,what are the 363's for?
