Is the whole rear D44 speedometer issue resolved if you get a d44 from a 2007 Jk?

Thanks!

I doubt it unless it has the same provisions for speedo pickup that the 8.25 has. I almost went w/ a pair of New JK D44's that I found but between the cost and unknown issues I decided to pass and go w/ what was already proven to work. Note that the JK axles are about 5" wider than the older TJ/XJ axles.

I was doing some research on the JK forum and saw a thread where people were getting their speedo's recalibrated for the larger tire. Unfortunately they can only be calibrated up to a 32" tire. what piqued my interest was that they were getting them calibrated through the computer which led me to believe that they have the same speedo pick-up as we do. I could be wrong, hence the question. also, there is a sale on both the front and rear axles for the d44 2007. This comes with the electric locker. all you need is a 12v supply and switches. This looks like a steal but I could be wrong. Is this a good price?

Also, from what I've read, the axles are 61.9 front and rear. I believe the old TJ's were like 59 inches. The Liberty is 60 so if that is correct, I can deal with an extra 2" on either side.

Thanks!

Dave

One problem I see w/ the complete units is the gearing. If you go w/ 33's you will wish you had a lower gear than the 4.10's. Not a bad price though for a new complete axle w/ e-locker.

I think with the d44, I can get 4.27's :D

P.S. There hasn't been an update lately on your swap JJ. How goes it?

4.27's?! Never heard of them.

Hmmmm..,,, how goes my SFA???? I wish I knew. I have not had a chance to get back up to the shop and not heard back from my emails I have sent. I know they are busy as usual and also probably getting ready for the Expo.

Hopefully after this weekend some progress will be made.

Yeah, I thought I heard somewhere too that the new Rubicon comes with 4.27 gears since the tires are 32's. The TJ Rubicon came with 4.10 gears and 30.5 inch tires so that would be about right to keep the same overall ratio.

Ok ok...
So now you guys are making me come clean.. it works just fine. I couldn't get it to pass emissions without hooking the speedo back up.
Use the tone wheel out of a D44 in a Rodeo and an RD116 ARB locker that has provisions for said tone wheel to be sandwiched between the ring gear and the deck, re wire the speedo and voila.... she workee just fine. Setting the depth was a beatch but I got it after a couple tries.

And yeah, you can get 4:27's or some guys call them 4:30's in Dana ratios... nice compromise ratio for the KJ if you can find them for the front if you want a little more street or have a diesel with more torque than a gasser.
