Using fullsize Ford axles, tjkj? or maybe Sami axles for that 5x5.5" pattern?

Sweet tires...too bad they don't make 'em in "normal" KJ-friendly sizes

Using full width axles,front HP44 from a '71 F-100 and a Currie RockJock 60 in the rear.

What do about using the Dana 35 axles that MOPAR is putting out now? I am not interested in going higher than 4" of lift and 32's.

Stephen

P.S. please take lots of pics when you start to build!

why use a 35 when 44s are stronger, even with 32 inch tire or whatever if you wheel at all might as well just go with whats best to begin with.

Good point. How much heavier is the 44 over the 35? I am an mechanical engineering major and UC Berkeley, so this kind of application of my schooling is really fun!

tjkj, what steering box are you planning on using? I am looking into a SFA and am trying to get together a parts list. complete as I can. I know people ended up using coilovers with the Dana 30. Are they just not wide enought to use a coil and shock setup? I was looking at the rubicon front axle from mopar. Some suppliers prices are pretty resonable but would be the same width as the 30 I imagine. BTW-sweet wheel and tire combo.

swyszomirski, Definatley worth the wieght for the added strength with the 44. The Dana 35 is crap. The 8.25 that the kj already has is much stonger just google the specs-shaft diameter, tube diameter etc.

Thanks.

You are right that the D30 is not wide enough to us coils and shocks and need coil overs that's why I'm going to us full width axles(HP44-67" wms to wms,RockJock60-65" wms to wms) which are about 6"-7" wider then TJ axles.

Oh I'm using a steering box from a '99 E-350 Ford Van,any steering box from a Aerostar van to E-150-E-350 vans will work, just using the HD version made for GVWR of 42000LBS+ for more strength.

So are you planning on coils and shocks or coilovers? Your using some pretty tuff axles are you planning on going tall enought to run something bigger than those 35s?

I have a "pre-soft ride" SkyJacker lift modified to use Rancho struts,It will be on sle after the SFA is completed.

Seperate coils and shocks all around using the control arms from a Rubicon Express TJ lift and RE ZJ 4.5" coils.I'm only going up about 3"-4" taller then I'm at now,low and wide since the KJ is very top heavy, should be way lower then ARBSeths or Wally's SFA KJ.Use of bumb stops will keep the tires in check with tons of down travel(limiting straps will be needed).I figure my tires will almost be completely outside of the flare. Also moving the front axle forward about 1",and the rear axle about 1 1/2"-2" rearward. With a little trimming 37" tires is not out of the question, now if the HP44 can handle 37" tires is another story.

nice! Sounds like a good plan. Well I guess you could run a rim with a lot of backspacing to put them in a little but being so wide should be really stable. Looks like you have things pretty well planned out. Cant you use shocks as your suspension limiter? Probably not the right word. I guess straps would be more adjustable.

Chris

Using limiting straps will save my shocks, shocks should not be used as limiting items in a suspension or damage can occur(to the shocks),and limiting straps are cheap.

Got brake and high steer components clearence to worry about, using Crane outer knuckles with there high steer arms and Chevy spindles, caliphers and Ford rotors.

hey I think 20s or 22s would take care of that problem of brake and high steer wouldnt it? Can just see it now......................

The only way I would run 20" rims is if 44" or 54" Boggers where wrapped around them 20" rims  .
