I should have qualified this, $10,000 minimum for SFA. There is no maximum now is there :D

I agree. even doing most of the work yourself, the parts (lockers, gears, axles, control arms, skids, diff covers, wheels, tires, springs, shocks, etc.) really add up fast.
I think the biggest and best budget build was the original one (on this forum) by JediJeeper a few years ago. He did all his own work in his driveway using junk yard full width axles, etc. and then wheeled the crap out of it in Utah. I really wish we could get him to spend more quality time on here.

I think all told I spent about $15K Retail for everything.
(Granted, I didn't spend that much... but if you did mine, that's what it would have costed you for the parts)
Then labor. Lots of labor... about 80 hours worth.

it's funny that you mentioned Chuck's trucks.... I posted a message on their page about a month ago, and they steered me in the direction of tntconversions who I am going to be working with on this V8 swap/ SFA job that is going to be done on my truck.... check the SFA board for my post to see the kind of work that they do....

OK, IF YOUR QUESTION IS CAN WE PUT 2.5 TON UNDER IT. WELL I THINK WE CAN.
THE GENERAL ESTIMATE WILL BE LABOR 3 - 4,000.00
PARTS WILL VARY FROM 8 - 9,000.00
AND THIS DOESNT INCLUDE WHEELS AND TIRES THEY RUN AN EXTRA 2 - 3,000.00
