What SFA could I swap in that also uses the RD100a that works with our Dana 30a? I am considering just dropping the ARB locker in the front and when it breaks, just swap in a solid front axle. It would be interesting to see how long it stood up before breaking. After it breaks, I'd like to swap the ARB into the new axle.

Thanks,
Rescu2000

A Dana 30 from the front of most Jeeps should work. The only difference between the D30a and the regular D30 is that the D30a has a longer pinion. The ring is the same on both diffs, so the ARB is swapable.

Not sure if the HP Dana 30 would work. With the LP Dana 30, you would be limited to a 33" tire.

D30's are D30's in so much as the carrier is the same size. So you can use a TJ, YJ, even a JK D30... they're all the same as the D30A...
Now the gears are all different... so keep that in mind.

As far as a 33" tire goes, well... I beg to differ... Sure looks like a 35" tire on there!

Yeah but you had a HPD30 on your KJ, not a LPD30 Seth. I do know plenty that are running 35's on LPD30's though.

My bad... good catch, though.
The HP/LP doesn't have much to do with the strength of the housing... it's more about driveline angle.

Anyway, 35's work fine on either as long as you're not beating the F'in crap out of it. Like some guys I know who taco'd their housing...no one saw me do it... must have been an MFR defect or something...couldn't have been the driver... I'm an excellent driver... Dad lets me drive slow in the driveway on Sunday's, Yeah.... that's it.

Anyway, all TJ's run a LP D30. Lots of 35's on TJ's running around with no problems.

Thanks guys. I was thinking of swapping in the HP D30, so that works out perfectly. I am going to just bite the big one and do ARB lockers front and rear with the d30a and the stock rear dff. Then when I do my SFA swap, I'll drop a d30 in the front and put my existing locker in it. Re-gear the front and back and I'm good to go.

Sweet...

If you plan on keeping the rear axle you are limited to 4.56 gears.

Good source to figure out gear ratio vs tire size:
