I thought the deepest gears were 4.56 not 4.88???? I found some 4.88s online and am wondering if anyone has heard of the 4.88s for the 8.25 before? |

Yeah, I just found them. Woot! I still need to decide whether or not to go 4.56 or 4.88... As far as a D30a, well... |

I figured I'd move this to where I should have stuck it in the first place. Here is the link to the site: http://www.justdifferentials.com/index. ... ts_id=2684 |

Here is the link to the site: http://www.justdifferentials.com/index. ... ts_id=2684 Never heard of them.Might want to call and ask what is stamped on the ring gear as far as a manufacturer.I'd pass if it isn't made by Yukon,USA Alloy/Precision gear,Motive,Fana/Spicer or Richmond. Not knocking them in anyway but it's better to start with something good and someone with a good track record. |

![]() Exactly... I found a HP D30 with an Aussie Locker, 4.88 gears, Warn 5x4.5 hub kit, Warn inner and outer chromo shafts, WJ knuckle/brake/steering conversion w/ chevy 3/4 ton TRE's and heavy duty 1.25x.219 drilled and tapped tie rod and drag link... I figured since I found this I would need 4.88s for the rear as well. |

I'm tempted to go for 35s now since the guy I am talking to about that front axle is running 35s on his rig and has done some gnarly stuff with it with zero failures. On 4.88s I think 35s would be perfect. I could also have the guy doing my build make some custom fenders to clear for room too. Little by little first though. |

What is the axle coming out of though? Don't forget, the KJ loaded w/ steel bumpers, gear, etc, etc is heavier than a similarily equipped TJ. If you didn't know, ARBSeth bent his HPD30 all to hell wheeling it hard on 35's. I have yet to hit an obstacle or trail that teh 33's didn't work just fine and I feel pretty confident that I won't bend it in my current configuration. |

The axle is out of this XJ ![]() ![]() Don't get me wrong, I think 33s would do me fine, but I figure if the gears are there for 35s. I was going to run 4.56 like we talked, and I guess I could sell the 4.88 and get 4.56 but I'd rather keep the 4.88s. What kind of mileage should I expect to get running 33s with 4.88s vs 35s and what about 33s with 4.56 vs 35s? |

You'd be more then fine with 4.88's and 33's.The KJ's 3.7 does not have the low end torque that the 4.0 I-6 does so it's alright to go a little deeper in gears. In a Jeep with the 4.0 I-6 4.88's would be to low for 33's but the 3.7 V-6 would be real happy with 4.88's and 33's.If you do more city driving or highway speeds under 60mph you may actually gain some mpg's running 4.88's and 33's.
What kind of mileage should I expect to get running 33s with 4.88s vs 35s and what about 33s with 4.56 vs 35s? I'm going to be running 5.13 gears with my 35" tires. |

IIRC, the XJ is lighter than an XJ. Why is this guy selling the axle? If he is doing it to move up, you may be $$$ ahead to just go where he is going from the start. |

He is going to go to a 44 and possibly go up in tire size as well. I only plan on running 33s and the built up 30 he is selling is a perfect application for what I need regardless of whether my KJ is heavier than his XJ. It is plenty strong enough for what I need. |
