Stock Transfer Case ??

Do you have to swap the transfer case in order to do a SAS? I know you should in order to get the right crawl ratio but I was thinking about getting a Rubicrawler instead. Good idea, bad idea, pros, cons?? I've asked around and am waiting to hear back from other shops so I thought I'd ask here. It will be a D30 up front. Will the front driveline be too weak if I stick with stock case because of the front spline output?

i have my stock 231 still...the only thing different is a front cv style yoke and a slip yoke eliminator in the rear in the rear...i off road minimum ounce a week

a lot of those jacked up xjs still have the 231 in them.

Inc, You know that the RubiCrawlers are darn near the same price (in fact with the sale on they are $50 more) than an Atlas 2. Personally I'd just upgrade the whole t-case.

I didn't know that. I thought the Ri Crawler was $1700 and the Atlas was like $2500

The two places with rubicrawlers available for preorder that I saw they were listed at 1950. The atlas depends on how you build it but they are starting at 1900 right now.

Well, Troy made a thread about the Rubi Crawler and where to buy it and it is $1695 I believe but for a few hundred more it would be worth getting the Atlas. I'll check it out for sure. There was a stock Rubicon low range case for sale locally for $1000 with like a thousand miles on it but I missed that boat.

Missed that thread. Must have been while I was in Afghanistan... I can keep an eye over on JK-Forums.com for you. They are up there all the time. Right now several Dana 30HD's and Rubi 44 front ends for sale, and a 241HD for $850 + shipping.

I have heard of the D30 HP, of course, but what makes a D30 a D30 HD? And what is a 241HD? How does it differ from the 241J & 241OR?

I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.........

The NP241 that was offered in a KJ is in no way the same as the RockTrac t-case.The 241 that was offered in the KJ is commonally known as the 231HD,it's the same as the 231 with a 1/4" wider chain.

The RockTrac t-case is a highly modified 1ton rated t-case,it goes by NV241J or the NV241OR.

Notice the NP and NV are different between the two.

Oh by the way with the "sale" on there AtlasII's it would cost $2375 for the exact same AtlasII I have.I originally paid $2200+$100 for S/H,then added for $120 the 1350 CV yokes F/R.The universal cable shifter are a must for the KJ and might as well get the 32-spline front upgrade for like $80.

The JK has the Rock-Trac 241HD in the Rubi, the rest had NVG 231J Command-Trac. You definitely want to the 241, not the 231. The axles are the "Next Generation Dana 30/44's, also listed as D30/44HD's. Stronger tubes, higher spline count, etcetera. The 30 is supposedly as strong as the old 44's, Holding up to 35's no problem.

I knew that the 241OR is different than the 241J in the KJ. It was the HD on the 241 that threw me. I believe the 241J is the same basic 241 as the 241C & 241D except that Dodge also ordered up an actual 241D-HD for awhile. I thought maybe Jeep had used a variant of that Dodge t-case.

What is the spline counts, etc... on the new D30? This is cool info. Eventually those will be swaapped out of numerous JK's as they go to D60's, etc... and the info may be useful in stockpiling SFA parts.

Yes, by a few inches overall. (IIRC) Sure you Can, you can do anything. :wink:
