I have done some reading to see what axles can be ran with a SFA and have found the JK axles and EB axles are the most common but I was wondering if Wagoneer axles would work? I came across a great deal on a waggy and if if has the D44s I was wondering if it would be a practical swap? Thanks

Well who doesn't want to go bigger?
I was thinking bigger as in 35", for me, military axles might be a little overkill.....haha

Lots of variations in 44s, some are a lot more desireable than others, even different production years brought different things, for example would you think there is a big difference in 1978 and 1979 F150 diffs? Well the 78s are better suited for what we need than the 79s due to the radius arms mounting are cast on the 79s and not the 78s
Then you get into some which are 5 lug, some 6 lug even some of the Izuzu Rodeos have a 44 with 6 lug in the rear

jsc7002, yeah it is the one on craigslist in Hutch for $325. Says it has a 360 with a cracked block, not sure if it has the 44's but its worth lookin into for $325 for a whole vehicle.

If your lucky like me you find a HP D30 with a locker and deep gears already in it. If your really lucky, that same axle might have Warn hub kit, WJ HD Knuckle/Brake/Steering conversion with 3/4 ton Chevy TRE's and heavy duty 1.25x.219 drilled and tapped tie rod and drag link... if your lucky. Then you can save some cash.

ya thats a pretty good deal Tom but if I do a SFA I dont want 4.10 gears

plus I want to build it myself, plus I already have a DTT so I would just need to re-gear it to 4.56 or 4.88 and then replace/ beef-up whatever else I wanted

I probably shouldn't tell you what the guy is selling me my front axle for.

That axle sounds like a good place to start from though Tom.

not really too expensive, I didn't list everything that it has done to them and yes you can find OLD stuff everyday but when its all brand new ready to bolt in

Not that I am buying it, the guy just knows I deal in Jeep parts and wanted to know if I knew anyone interested  but then I knew that everyone knows of someone selling used junk that needs rebuilt  look what just the front and rear lockers cost and installing them, then all new gears/ bearing/ 1 ton steeringetc etc etc

'79-older FSJ's are passenger drop front axles.

You need an '80 & newer Waggy or N/T Cherokee. The WMS-WMS is about 57". Avoid the '81-'85 units with full time 4wd ( 228 or 229 t-case ) as they use that funky axle disconnect system. Part-time t-case equipped waggies from those years are fine. Stock axle ratios tend to suck, though.

From '80-'85 the rear will be an AMC Model 23, which is often incorrectly called a Model 20. It is a stronger unit than a CJ M20 & is probably as good as a D44 rear. '86 & up had D44's front & rear. The fronts are LP units.

The '80-up J-trucks & '80-'83 W/T Cherokees have D44 fronts & are 63" wms-wms. Avoid the same CAD axles from above. The rear year breaks for M23/D44 are the same. J20's will have D60 rears, but are 8-lug.

All but very early FSJ's & J20's are 6x5.5 for the lug pattern.

FSJ's are great toys and are usually overlooked for more popular, but not more capable, jeeps. They can be bought right & easily modified or, as you are talking, they can be dandy parts donors. The axles are simple leaf spring perches and are very easy to mod, unlike many axles from vehicles with a more complicated suspension system.
