What kind of steering setup is needed for an SFA? I saw somewhere on here that Ford steer boxes work but not positive which model and what years are compatible. If I were to buy a Ford steering box, what else would I need? I found one in a Bronco II for pretty cheap, but not sure if it will work.

yes that box does....i ended up using a wj box because of it's long snout...4 bolts go straight in to the frame rails which have tubes in between them to stop them from caving in...u are able to use a 98 model box out of a 2wd astro van...the reason that didn't work for me at first was the builder used to thin of metal so the braket was bending and he got a awd box which is not the same...a 2wd astro box will work and it has double valving... just need a lower braket for it

other than the gear box, does everything else bolt up? or do you convert to a drag link? or some other form of steering

well that's up to u...you can get a high steer knuckle, which helps greatly i must add...you can go w/ standard jeep steering which is ok only if your trac bar follows your drag link and it is kept to a small degree...i think you can also go w/ a double drag link that goes to each knuckle but that is worthless with alot of lift i would think...the high steer knuckle is the best

does a high steer knuckle just raise the point were the tie rods connect to keep them the same length?

Any year Ford BroncoII or a '90-'91 F150-F350 steering box is all the same steering box, direct fit onto the KJ's OEM steering shaft.I'm also using a OEM pitman arm for a '91 F350 on mine(will be reamed to accept 1 ton GM TRE's),1 ton GM TRE's,high steer Crane D44 knuckles(passenger side only with high steer arm),and custom drag link/tie rod(1.25"x0.281" walled DOM tapped to 7/8-14 thread).Basically my drag link goes from the pitman arm to the passenger side high steer arm,the the tie rod is moved to the top side of the stock tie rod location for 4" more clearance(Crane knuckles already reamed for the flipped tie rod).

So is $50 a good deal for a box out of a Bronco II?

get ride of tie rods and use hiem joints...mine comes off the pitman arm-to the passenger side knuckle top... underneath that is another hole to put either tie rods or hiem like i did...that end goes on the top. but all the way over the the other knuckle...it raises it off the ground but it also brings stock symmetry closer for better steering ability...

Make sure the sector shaft seal is good.

Will do, so assuming the seal is good I'll pick it up then.

as long as it is good shape, yeah...make sure it will move back and forth w/ no jerks or anything, and make sure it does not leak...

Nope, the KJ comes OEM with a rack and pinion steering box, basically has the tierod and drag link all intergrated. The older style steering uses a recirculating-ball steering box that requires separate drag link/tie rod.

When you say you have the "knuckle," that means you have just the one knuckle thats different from the other?
