I have talked to 4 guys, all have off road shops and when I told them that I was going to use 450 and 550 springs, their eyes bugged out of their heads. One guy is using 175 uppers and 250 lowers on his 5300# FSJ. I bought 250 and 300 springs. I have 90 days to use them and see if I was an idiot and should have went with what is known to work or if they do work I'll keep them. With this setup as well I should get 5" up and 5" down, which is what I want. We'll see.

Looking forward to how the springs work....word on the street is coil-overs don't flex well....... I've often wondered about softer coils and of course I'm sure there might be room for improvement but then there is this......

etc, etc. approx. 5 up, 5 down in front about 6 up, 6 down in rear. Rides like a Caddy. I've wanted to mess w/ it but can't bring myself to mess w/ whats not broken.

I think coilovers flex as good or better than any regular coil out there. I just wonder how much of a difference there is in the spring rates. From everything I've heard the softer they are the better they flex and ride on the road. It looks to me like 450 and 550 work darn good though. Your pics make me want to return the soft ones for some harder ones.

Has anyone actually put softer ones on their SFA KJ?

I figured I would post up some pics of some of the parts I have been gathering. Not all of them are in my garage or here yet, but here are some of them.

I see you got 4.88 for the 8.25. Is that the highest you can get for the 8.25 or could you go higher?

Yes, 4.88 is the highest you can go with the 8.25 or the Dana 30 IIRC.

Just to let you know some major grinding of that ring gear(the teeth) will be needed to get the center pin back into the carrier so don't freek when you see it.Kinda a drawback of a non-carrier break axle like the 8.25,heck they need to grind the ring gear to install 4.56's.

Couldn't the ring gear grinding be eliminated with a Locker that replaces the carrier?

I picked these up this morning.

They also sent me a track bar mounting bracket but the frame rails on the KJ is too wide for it to, so back it goes. Otherwise it would have been sweet.

So I just realized that you're not going with full width axles. Why? Dont you want the wider stance? Or am I just missing something here?

I didn't want to swap front and rear ends out. Just a whole lot easier to keep the rear 8.25 and get a built D30 from and XJ.

With running gear that heavy, I'd have to seriously consider a real engine upgrade. The mini van motor of the KJ does fine I guess, and regear will of course help, but with a heavy vehicle already, I'm not looking to add a ton more weight to it and I think the setup I'll be running will do me fine for quite a long time.

Had the tires and wheels paired up today. I think they go together quite nicely. These tires and wheels aren't much heavier than my current setup.
The old set weighs 47 per tire and 28 per wheel = 75 per combo.
The new set weighs 67 per tire and 17 per wheel = 84 per combo.

Now I just need a bit more height...

I met with and talked to TFab again and we crunched the #s, they were out of my range by a long shot. Their work is phenomenal but they do not come cheap.

Lucky for me I have a friend who makes custom aircraft for a living and he also does phenomenal work. He and I are meeting this Friday to discuss the build and when we will start. This is his old jeep he just sold and he did al the work on it himself including the custom front bumper. He said he was looking for a side project to work on so I guess mine will do.

I haven't put it up there to see if the 35 will fit, but I am taking it back to the guy that built it and he is going to beef it up for the added weight and then add a swing away for a gas can and the hi lift on the opposite side. I'll probably move the tire to the driver side too.

Are those OME coils the same that come with a OME HD kit for our KJ? Are they longer or for some other vehicle? Other question why didnt you go with a ox air shock or something in the rear to go with the fox in the front?

The OME 864 coils are for a Toyota FJ80, they are much longer than a KJ OME coil spring.
