| Post subject: | Steering question |
After reading all these build threads, I have a question about steering. On most of the SFA KJ's out there, the owner used a D30 front axle. That's what I have in my LJ as well. But it seems that all of them have the tie rods located pretty high above the pumpkin. Did you guys use stock knuckles or some kind of aftermarket upgrade? Or is there some other secret to getting the tie rod up higher? I would like to get my tie rod up higher on the LJ and thought maybe something you guys used could work for me. I have aftermarket steering but the tie rod is still just even with the axle tube. It has only been raised an inch or two at most above the stock location as you can see in this picture:
Thanks for any insight you can give. |

We reamed out the holes from the top of my stock XJ knuckles and flipped the tie rod to sit on top. The last episode of trucks did it to an XJ and they really showed how to do it. It is a cheap way to move it up a little bit. |

^^Common, cheap way to do it. Other than that, you have to look for aftermarket knuckles ($$$$) or mod a WJ knuckle setup similar to mentioned above. |

Thanks. I'm going to have to look at my knuckles and see if that is even possible. My aftermarket steering is a knuckle to knuckle system, so I'm not sure if flipping the tie rod would get in the way of the drag link or not. |
