I have access to an 8.8 rear end with 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern and a speedo sensor in the diff? I am unsure of what exactly it is out of but seems like a nice axle with disc brakes and is the same width as my 8.25....any thoughts? I want an axle without C clips. |

8.8s commonly come out of Ford Explorers and sometimes have 4.10 gears in them They are really popular among TJ owners who have dana turdy-fives and are commonly considered to be as strong, or a little stronger than a Dana 44. Normally guys will either cut off the mounts from thier 35s and reweld them to the 8.8, since explorers use leaf springs in the rear, or they will buy a set of mounts from a vendor like M.O.R.E. Again, really common due to the wide availability of explorers in every junkyard in the US. Not sure if the speed sensor would be compatible with Jeep's system. Maybe someone like Troy would know, or maybe you could do a search on JeepForum for info, although I'm not sure if anyone in the TJ would would have a need for the speed sensor as TJs use the transfercase for that. |

The 8.8 is a C-clip axle, though there are kits out there to eliminate the C-clips,it's a few inches wider then the 8.25.You can not use the OEM style rear suspension setup that the KJ uses with any axle but the 8.25,will have to get rid of that upper tri-link. As for the speed sensor in the 8.8 it depends on what type it is,if it is a 3 wire Hall Effect sensor it will not work,if it is 2 wire AC signal generator it will work but a signal interface will be needed to correct the speedo signal(Dakota Digital makes a good one that works for $80). |
