Ok, I'm at the point that alot of money is gonna be spent to either get a steel replacement IFS housing, or spend just a bit more and go all-out for a SFA. Cost between the two is really not the deciding factor at this point, more for me is drive-ability and knowing the fact I'm pretty much stuck with it once I'm committed. Reading through all the threads here, I know there is nobody who regretted the swap, but I'm still wanting to keep this as a serviceable daily driver and not a "trail-only" rig. So, is this asking too much you think? I've had two previous well built & capable XJ's, but both were more on the side of a "budget build" and therefore did not have the greatest on-road manners. With what I'm willing to put into this project, I know for sure that the drivability will no doubt be better.

Mines a DD.Alot has to do with how it is done and parts used(and not just axles). You really need to overkill it a bit for safe DD,more so in the mounts used to mount the steering box and control arms.

Your going to need a SYE kit if you plan on keeping the OEM t-case,which means new driveshafts,to cut down on the vibs from the amount of lift required.

No trails yet with the SFA due to a little thing called snow and still have 2 other Jeeps to get built/running 1st.Just look up my cardomain page(same username) for some IFS wheeling pics, got hundreds of pics of my KJ wheeling with IFS.

Troy said it best with building it right from the get go. Have seen "a few" KJs done that I think would be scary for a DD. I have built quite a few other rigs including a 77 Dodge van on 40s that was my one and only DD for a long time. Never had a problem since I built it to drive!
So do it right the first time and you'll have a great ride!

I don't see why it a DD KJ SFA wouldn't be safe and reliable. It's all in the construction and the brains behind the build. I am planning out my SFA swap now. I do over 1000 miles per week during the race season, so a SFA swap better be reliable, lol. Other wise... I'm SOL

I also have an '02 and just turned over 58,000. Mine would be a daily driver, its completely reliable and safe. Its the price of gas in California thats a pain. Once you SFA a KJ it doesn't get the greatest gas mileage anymore, not that it got great gas mileage in the first place. But I drive a boat load of miles and it just makes more sense for me to drive something that gets better gas mileage.
