I haven't touched the CRD since mid July.
Got back from the cross country dirt bike trip and ready to continue.
This pic was the last time I worked on it on July 4th.

That is a sweet camo paint job....did you tape it off or just let the overspray overlap each color.

Thanks.

Military paint hides a lot of blemishes, thats what i needed.
4 color paint scheme from military hummer. Changed one of the colors to sand. I did the base and drew lines with a sharpie, just let the paint over spray, no crisp lines.
My son borrowed some of my suspension parts, i had been collecting. I will have to do inventory and reorder.

Looks really great....cool paint job. I have a tip for you that I found out about after I did mine. If you are going to keep the rear upper spring perches it may be of benefit to weld them more securely to the unibody/frame. They are only held on there with three little spot welds. I broke my passenger side one off while flexing on some rough stuff. May be easier to go ahead and throw a weld around them now than later when you have it all together. Good luck to you, very exciting.

Thanks Neatus for that tip, yes i am planning on using them. I appreciate all the help I've recieved from the LOST site.

Jeepbumm, funny you say that about my son buying parts. I thnk I started something when I started this CRD project, when I brought the 78 ford home Ethan showed a seious interest in this truck.
Next thing I know he is striking a deal with my little brother and bringing home this fine little nugget home.lol,

He worked all summer long to pay for the truck.
In my shop I have a 92 dodge cummins diesel that I took out of a 3/4 ton with 230,000 miles. The motor was stashed on the top pallet rack, out of sight, out of mind, I thought.
Ethan had a plan to take the Cat 3208 [non running] engine out of the 65 Dodge W300 power wagon and slide hte cummins with a auto trans in its place.
The parts grabbing from my project took place while I was on my trip. I'll never miss a few parts, or a cummins diesel.

This engine swap project is still under way. I'm not complaining by no means. I am proud and excited that he has such an interest in redneck engineering.
I did step in and help him replace the rusted out floor pan and helped him build a roll cage in the cab. He is seventeen, this is how I got the CRD project.
Sorry to get off subject, I just found humor in your statement.

That's odd mine were held in with about 12 spot welds each, now they are bolted on as I moved them back some.

Wrong...there is no rust or primer colors on it..... :goink: :goink: :ROTFL:
Tom I do like the Zebra too....like Ted Nugent's Bronco

When I was looking at beater Wranglers last fall, I wanted to do camo, only had in mind the blacks, browns and green with the leafs all over....hadn't thought of the military camo, that thing looks cool!

Yeah, I ended up bolting mine on as well with grade 8 bolts....

I had to reintroduce myself to the CRD. Been away for so long I couldn't remember what I had planned. I had minimal notes on what i had laid out. But it came back quickly as I repositioned the front axle under the tight working space. I have been 4WD for a while and have built a few, but not a coil spring, contol arm set up. leaf spring rigs are really simple in comparison, especially when you can use a full hyd. steer. I spent Sat afternoon replotting and this morning started with building a tyruss for the front D44.

Image

Accidently cross threaded a fine thread bolt. Dang short vision.

Image

Image

Next, started on the control arm using 1 3/4" X 1/4" DOM with a slight bend where the upper arm will tie in.

Image

Image

Tack welded in place until a final articulation check. This is fun stuff, don't know if I'm doing rite or wrong. thats apart of the challenge, if wrong I can beat it down and start all over. LOL

Image

I hope to do more after work manana. I'll post some more.

Merry Christmas.
I have been busy with work, so, not much work has been done on the CRD. but I have been ordering more parts and some specific tools for installing the gear sets and ARB lockers.

I also ordered a set of wheels and tires from a local shop. when i went to pick up the set, an employee at the shop came out with a box that was taped up tight. He said this box contains the lug nuts for the set. I didn't ask if it was for a set of five or a set of four, I just had a picture in my mind that it would be the fancy lug nuts that come with aluminum wheels. I got the set of wheels and tires home and was excited about how well they looked, next I opened the box of lug nuts and wow! There was 200 nuts for 1/2" studs. LMFAO I was curious, I don't think I have anything on my property that has this thread. I know I don't, I went and looked. If any one needs any 1/2" lug nuts let me know. LOL

Image

Image

I started assembling the locker ring gear.

Image

Image

Image

Had to build a spanner to hold the locker while the bolts get torqued to 110 lbs.

Some of the rear suspension parts.

Image

Sorry for the delay, I'm past ready to get the CRD off the lift and on the road.
Later.

hey man its looking like progress finally lol.

We got the crd rolling here finally. Not to happy with the finished product. So next summer, we are throwing FW d44 and d60 under it. Also going to re do the stiffeners, and the front coilover mounts.

Get that thing done so we are not the only CRD on here with an dang SFA lol
