Looks like our Southern Lost group needs some action so I figured I would try to wake some of y'all up.

Does anyone know (Jason Thompson or Bub perhaps) if we can drive over to the Interco factory in Rayne, La. and get some
Swampers mounted while there? Are they open to the public? I saw or heard something about this being an
option but I can't seem to find it now.

I want to be on new rubber within the next couple months.

Thanks for any help.

Scott

Scott,
Not sure about the factory in Rayne,Jason would probably know. Most factories are wholesale, but you never know, with the amount of swampers they sell around here.If they sell retail, and you wanna go,I'll take a ride to check out the factory.Love that show "How It's Made".
Saw that you were checking out those Parnelli Jones. Those would look sweet on your rig.You gotta be ready to get rid of those training wheels
I'm pretty much sold on the BFG KM2's.Just a matter of time.
Thanks for the wake up call,
Bub

If it comes down to it, I'll call them up and find out for sure. If I end up going, I'll let you know. You are welcome to come with!

Yes, I am ready to get some new tires. I am between the Trxus and PJ's. Probably end up going with the Trx but who knows for sure. We will save this for another thread. :?

Those KM2's are nice looking. Looks like they go from a little over 30 OD to a 33 or so. No in between? Hmmmm.

Oh, great picture for your avator. I attempted to put one up but it didn't work, I am sure I was doing something wrong.

Cool. Thanks for the updated info on the BFG's, Diggerfreek.
If they are not too far off, the KM2's do look like a good option to put in the list.

Diggerfreek,You're the man! You just saved me from buying a new set of rims.Wouldn't happen to know when the new sizes are coming out ey?

Scott, to get the avatar thingy to work you have to get rid of the HTTP: stuff from the front and the end of the line.
took me a while to figure that out.

That is one hell of a cool campsite. I need to find my way back there again, and soon!
I found a pretty good photographer too, didn't I?!
My next forum project will be to figure out how to post pictures and then I'll share the rest of the pictures that YOU took of my KJ at YOUR camp.

So, what size KM2's are you thinking of getting (I am assuming you are getting a larger size to go with a Frankenlift)?

Wasn't my original subject something about Interco and Rayne, La??

Yea,typical of most subjects posted.Start off reading about one subject,by the end it could've changed entirely.

I was going to go with the 245-70r17 with new rims, but now the selection is huge. Not sure which size to go with.Don't think I'll be gitting new rims now.So many sizes to choose from.....

31/10.5-16 (PJ), 245/75-16, 235/85-16 or 265/75-16...... I can't decide. I want every mm I can get for more
ground clearance. I'll be keeping my stock rims for now.

Maybe I'll get a chance to call about Interco next week. I'll let you know what I find out.
Thinking I will end up going with the Trxus which leaves me with a choice of 235/85 or 265/75. Just hope I don't
run into too much trouble with either of these. Unless I procrastinate long enough for the KM2s to come out in a
sizes I would be interested in, then I might go that way. Either way, I hammered down my pinch welds yesterday...

Hey Scott
I know that you have seen my TJ in action so you know that the tires count
however #1 that is not by any stretch my DD and #2 those tires will not fit a KJ
I run a 31 X 11.5 ,never fit a KJ with out ripping off the fender flairs
The way I see things is from a "is it worth it" stand point
You have seen me run on 31's where people with 33's+ had problems ,and I made it look easy like the hill at paradise when every one else was slipping and sliding but I drove right on up
that was low psi in a good tire not a supper tall tire
I would go with a 245/75 BFG MT or comparable tire, like the Remmington Mud Brute loads of people run them with very good luck
I know that you see loads of Truxs MT's out there but that is simply the "soup of the day" people are having issues with them egging when they go in the rocks
I dont know much about the KM2's only that you need to run 12psi to climb what I do at street pressure
and they seem to have poor lateral traction ,guy slid in to the same tree 3 times
Hit me up if you have questions or better yet we should meet up and I will ride you in the KJ to show you what a tire as mild as the Goodyear MTR sounds like this way you will have a bench mark and know of you can live with more noise or is traction more important than noise
also note that even mild tires will do well with a rear locker ,just saying
You could save some bucks on tires buy going with the Mud Brutes and a used 245/75 any tire for a spare and cover it ,I have one that says Jeep you can have, then get a Detroit Locker for the rear
This is probably the #1 reason why I make it look "easy" and you will be the shait

Thanks Jason.

I am very aware that tire height wasn't what got us up that hill so easily, that is was the due to good tires.
But, I think there is a lot of difference between a TJ and a KJ. I don't even have 9 inches of clearance (with my Frankenlift) from my front skid plate and it gets less where the IFS comes down to meet the tire. Back when I had a Wrangler I never worried about ground clearance... boy, the liberty has made me think differently. So anyway, that is why I am leaning toward a taller tire. With the 235 or 265 I would gain over an inch in ground clearance from my stock tires. From everything I have read, the Trxus is not extremely loud and is a pretty good compromise between good off road and good street manners. I have not at all ruled out the 245/75's. Just wish there were more options in it.

My other thought is, since this is my DD, probable 80-85% (if not more) of my KJ will be mall cruiser (even if I NEVER go to the mall) and a small percent of the time off road. Being that the KJ has a poor enough rep and all I ever see around here are soccer moms driving them, I want mine to look as mean as possible. I want so mean sidewall tread and to be as tall as I can get, without compromising safety.

Detroit Locker - I would love to go that route. I thought there was some reason they wouldn't work with the ESP equiped KJ's. Maybe I am wrong.

Thanks for the offer for a spin in your KJ with the MTRs. That would be cool. I would like to see ours side by side, now that I have the lift on it.

Thanks again, Jason.

(Come ride Eglin with us!)
Scott

I would really like to but I am busy getting my house ready to sell
We are looking to move and the house needs some paint and cleaning so I am pushing that

I just dont thing that running a 265/75 is such a great idea
Go over to tirerack and compare the MTR in a 245/75 to a 265/75 and you will see what I am talking about
IIRC you gain only 1/2" in Ground clearance but 100' of head ache
Those tires will need a bunch of trimming and pounding to fit
I want to say that the CRD Frank gets a little less lift than the gas Frank so this is where the head aches will come from
not to mention the huge drop in MPG
Let me get some good choices that I have seen in action and that look good too

Here is one
http://ssl.delti.com/cgi-bin/rshop.pl?d ... 135&Achse=

another one here
http://ssl.delti.com/cgi-bin/rshop.pl?d ... 135&Achse=

Now these look bad stupid ,I have seen them on an F250
get a generic used but good 245/75 spare and cover it ,just incase you get a flat but you should be more than fine
I say that because these are directional
http://ssl.delti.com/cgi-bin/rshop.pl?d ... 135&Achse=

here is another
http://ssl.delti.com/cgi-bin/rshop.pl?d ... 135&Achse=

I had these on my old truck
good looking side wall ,and even better on the smaller sizes
http://ssl.delti.com/cgi-bin/rshop.pl?d ... 135&Achse=

These look very close to the MTR as far as side wall but for much less money
http://ssl.delti.com/cgi-bin/rshop.pl?d ... 135&Achse=

Thanks for taking the time to give me a list of links to possible tires. Now most of these are more like what I am looking for. Great list! Thanks!
The KL71 looks good to me but of course, I have a question.
Has anyone else noticed that some pictures show a 'blocked' side wall and others showed a 'winged' (best I could come up with to describe it) side wall. All the pictures I can find of the tire on a vehicle have the winged sidewall. I prefer the blocked sidewall but only see it in the advertised pictures of the tire not mounted. Anyone know what the story is here?

I would take your questions to the Tire section
I do not think any one has run these but I could be wrong

Are you sure about that?? I would be willing to make a wager.
You sure don't look like you are in your 40's but I might be wrong.
I was born in '69. Do I need to get more detailed than that? :D

When I asked about the wing vs block question, I thought it would probably be better in the tire section.
In a search I did see where a guy on the board is running them and posted a picture. I can't remember
who it was but the tires did have the 'wings'.

Also, about the 1/2 inch vs 1(+) inch when talking about the difference in stock vs 265 or 235...
The online metric tire converter says that my stock tire of 225/75 is 29.3 in diameter (if that is accurate)
while Interco says their 265 and 235 are 31.9.
So, 31.9 - 29.3 = 2.6
2.6 / 2 = 1.3

Am I understanding (calculating) this correctly?
I do realize that Interco's tires seem to run a bit bigger than others.... which is more concern with my CRD (as
you already mentioned).
