Ocala National Forest is a logical choice from it's location, but I'm sure many have already visited there.

Hardrock in Ocala sounds interesting, and I have never been there. We would have no hassles for wheelin as a group there either...

Hardrock is pretty awesome. A little bit for everyone, but it's a bit tight for large groups. I have never been to the forest, but I hear you get fined if there's mud on your rig.
Citrus WMA is pretty awesome (located in Inverness). There are campsites there and a brand new Holiday Inn across the street. I was there as an invited guest of the Citrus Jeepers back in May. Lots of trails through the woods and washouts to have fun in.
There is a new ORV Park in the Orlando area that opened a few weeks ago. I have not heard any feedback, but I know it's pricey ($25 per person).
I stay in Broward but I am not afraid to rock on down the road.

I will be spending this weekend in Orlando, do you know the name of the park so I can do an online search for it? I have family that I visit there often and would be interested in checking it out...

Hardrock is fun for a very short time. You just keep going over the same stuff all the time. They do have some very nice spots though. I have been to Ocala NF a couple of times and it at least has trails to roam around on. Oseola NF, up by Lake City/ west of Jacksonville has a ton of trails and if it has been raining a lot it gets real interesting! Think "FEET" of water.

Terry

Oseola: this spot is usually 2' deeper. It was up to the top of my KJ bumper.

This is a typical Oseola trail that I was on when it's dry.

Oseola when it was a little wetter!

If you stay on the trails and don't try digging a hole to China the boys and girls of Ocala won't bother you. They will get real upset if someone goes cross country, making their own trails. If your half way decent about your wheeling there wouldn't be a problem in other words.

I've ben banging my head against the wall trying to get something together......but I digress.

There is a planed trip to Bear Island in Big Cypress Aug 2 with SFJC. There are some minimum requirements to get a permit and if you don't already have one, you need to get an ORV Operators Lisense (issued there).

The bummer would be if you failed inspection, you drove out there for nothing. I threw the dice and passed.

That is a bit far south for me. What is the latest on the tree huggers down there? I see that they had brought a law suite against the park service, or whoever runs it, to stop the 4X4's.

To my knowledge (new here). They do an aweful lot now to keep the riff raff away (inspections, permit fees, license). Four wheelers (the largest menace) were tearing up the area pretty good. The trails were established to give them a place to ride which saved all the land in the prairies. They have before and after aerial photos on display to show how the trail system saved the area.
The reality is, the monies collected form the OHV and ORV crowd does more for Big Cypress than any bark-humper.

The gates are locked and the combo is on the back of your license. They change the code every year and they mail you a new sticker with the new code. There are two decals that must be on the vehicle, one on the windshield and the other in the door jam. The door jam sticker is the inspection passed decal.

I've only been there once, but I saw two Rangers out on the trail. One was an offroad enthusiast, she was telling us stories about her swamp buggy.

Big Cypress is run by the Feds and the rangers there run a tight ship. The cool thing about the inspection ordeal is the license is a photo ID issued by the feds so technically, it's legal tender (for ID purposes).

Where can I find the requirements? I looked around and didn't see anything.

I drove near the area on my way to Tampa from Orlando on July 4th. The park is located alittle further then I thought from my family's house in Orlando, about 1 hour away using Interstate 4. When you mentioned it, I was hoping it was alittle closer than that. Still, it is located right in the middle of the state...

When in Orlando, I do have a spot I like to wheel when I visit. It is located near Rock Springs, just outside of Apopka. My brothers and I will go for a quick ride when we visit, it is only about 12 minutes from the house. It's small though, that's why I was interested in a true off-road park in that area...

You won't make it.
You could make it in the Ocala Ntl Forest if you stay out of the sugar sand.
