I'm heading to Tellico on Sunday. You guys have fun offroading here while I'm gone. I should have some pictures after I get back. I'm not going to get to crazy because I'm by myself. From Tellico I'm heading to Alabama for some offroading at Panther Creek. Should be about 2000 miles round trip with some good offroading in between I hope. She you guys at the end of Feb.

Wes

I was just asking myself this morning when you were leaving for your trip. Anyway, have a good one wes and be safe. Take plenty of pics and we will see you for the lift party.

Not sure if you saw this thread, but supposedly Tellico and Uhwarrie ORVs are closed for the "off-season"...

I'll take a look, every year I've gone in Feb. people have told me it was closed. Every time I went to the gate it was open with the cards for payment in the boxes. I've been expecting it to be closed one year when I go but so far so good.

Here's a proposed closing letter showing some of the possible closures. Most of these trail I wouldn't do in my new jeep anyways.

http://www.sfwda.org/trails/tellico/tel ... 051208.pdf

I also called the Tellico Ranger Station a few minutes ago. They said that most all of the trails are open. Some of the more extreme trails are closed due to weather conditions.

I've heard bad rumors that Tellico and several other site could be closed for good in near future. I hope that great 4x4 site like LOST help keep them open.

I spoke with a Forest Ranger today who told me that they hope to keep it open year round but that some trails become to dangerous to leave open when they are covered with ice. I can understand that. That makes me think the closing of trails are for dangerous conditions instead of limiting use.

Well I made it to Fontana Village where I'm staying. I took the forest road from Andrews to Robbinsville. It was fun! Got the jeep a little dirt but it will be alot worse by the time I get home. Here's a couple of photo's from the trip up.

We tried to go to Tellico today. Shouldn't have. It's was snowing pretty good when we left the cabin. By the time I got to Tellico it was under about 3 inchs of snow with ice under the snow. The rocks were so slippery I was afraid we would slip off the edge of the trail. I do have a few pictures from trail Number 4. Trail 4 should have been doable, I've done it in my old Liberty. I was running in four low with both lockers locked and was still having a tough time. I got to the the first real rock climb and had to winch myself over it. The rocks were all coated in a fine layer of ice. I then had to winch myself another 100 yards to get to an area to turn around. COMING DOWN is another long story. My wife will not forget this one for a long time. I have a battle scar on my drivers side. I scratched my jeep pretty good right below the drivers door on another trail yesterday. (Just incase northerns are reading this, and are saying I just don't know how to drive in the snow, save it, I've grew up in North Alabama with snow and ice every year) Well better luck next year. Couple more days in the mountains then I'm off to Alabama to offroad there for a few days.
