I'm interested in the front hitch fabrication thread in the "for sale" area, and would like to know if any of our local members have one installed on an '05 or '06 that I could take a look at.

any replies would be great!

tia, Jon

I installed one on my 02 and my 05 CRD. The 02 was easy. Everything went in where the holes were the bumper. The 05 CRD was a different story. The bumper and the be cut in several places and it was very hard to cut it without is looking bad. I ended up using a hitch mounted license plate to cover the center hole when there was no winch attached.

These hitchs give you alot of options of the front. I loved having the hitch, but security of your winch becomes an issue if you park outside. Also make sure your willing to cut your bumper up. I used a torch and a sharp knife. I would heat the knife a bit and cut a little on the bumper. Slow but worked.

Here is a few photos of my old CRD. Maybe you can see a little of the cutting required and how I covered it.

Here is a few pictures from my 2002 Liberty. I can't find any really good picture to show the winch from under the jeep but here is my best shots.

thanks for the pics!!!

I was thinking that if the reciever part of the hitch was under the cross-bar instead of in the center(middle) of it, it would clear the bumper plastic. What do you think?

BTW I am not planning for a winch, just would like extra utility of the front hitch.

If your not going to use it for pulling you could easily build your own hitch and use a 1 1/2 Inch reciever. That would give you a much smalled piece to fit under the bumper. Part of the reason the reciever is up high is to help with the lose of approach angle. If you put something that extends the front out further beyond the wheels you decrease your approach angle. Another reason for way it's setup has to do with the pulling side to side. If the hitch is not attachted properly you can bend the frame or the hitch during a hard pull. If you used a small bar you could easily use the factory hooks or attachment points and build your hitch. Look up some of the RV towing attachments. Those could easily be modified to give you a small hitch. I think Fulltimer has a RV hookup on the front of his Liberty. What are you going to use it for?

Put it on when you need to winch up something, then remove it after. I love it.

Are you able to give me a link to the supplier of the hitch & the part number for it and the winch.

Is the winch made like that or do you need an attachment for it?

THanks
CD

Unfortunately Draw-Tite and Reese no longer make the front hitch for the KJ, and they are VERY scarce in the used market which is why the one person has a build going on for them. I lucked into one when I local member was parting his KJ out 8) As far as the mount goes, they do make those to fit the 2" receivers, so you could use it either in front or in back. If I had the money that's the system I'd go with.

Here's a link to one on the Quadratec site: Hidden Hitch Front Winch Mount Receiver Plate. If you do a google search for 'receiver winch mount' I'm sure you'll find plenty more.
