Guys, I have an idea for a future ride. I'm really concerned about the closing of the Forest for offroad use. I think we as Florida LOST need to do our part and help out the Rangers with the problems they are having in the forest. I believe the next ride we do in Ocala National Forest needs the be a clean up ride. I know you guys don't want to load trash in the back of your Jeeps. So if we can get some guys with 4x4 trucks that would be great. I know two guys that will attend with trucks. I'm going to pull a small 4x8 trailer with my Jeep. I know those Libertys will tow trails so speakup trailer owners. We need to contact the Ranger Station and setup a ride. The Rangers will provide the big trash trucks to dump the trash in. (the trash trucks have to stay on main trails due to being 4x2's) We just have to ride the trails, pickup trash, and haul it back to the main road. Of course we need to arrange this with the Rangers. The morning could be spent picking up trash, then a break could be taken for lunch. Then we could do a short ride in the afternoon with the blessing of the Forest Rangers. I always try to propose date that I'm off from work so here we go......June 10th or June 24th.

Wes

I would do something like that.....it should have started raining by then....be nice and humid... :D

it wouldn't be as easy for the guys who come from long distance.....if only a few of us, we might not make much of an impression with your ranger friends....but a team of four or five could still have some laughs and do something good....

Looks like I have a wedding I have to attend on the 24th of June. Hows does the 10th sound to everyone?

I can probably do either of those two dates as well. My preference would be the 10th but I can probably make either. I can bring my truck and I also have another small 4X8 trailer if someone else wants to tow it, or I can, doesn't matter. Everyone would also need to bring cloves and garabage bags, that is the easiest way to pick up trash and transport it.

You might want to consider how you approach them on this issue plus it will probably need to be setup fairly soon. I would ask them for a specific areas in the woods to clean. You'll probably remember the last time when I setup the cleanup with FLTTORA guys and the mess (basically a local dumping ground for the lazy people in Astor)they tooks us too. I would would ask if we could clean areas like Blue Sink, Bear Hole, and other areas that get trashed on a regular paces by offroaders.

These cleanups are always alot of fun. I have done several in the forest and it is great PR with the forestry service. Once the date is established we could think about inviting other clubs.

Here is some pics of the stuff we picked up on the last cleanup.
Well I guess the pics are to big but here are the links...

Oops, how'd that one get in there... LOL
Then we went and did some wheeling afterwards

Mudtrac,

Do you want me to see if Daniel (my buddy with the lift Toyota SAS from our first ride) can setup this Trash ride with the Rangers. He's setup rides like this before.

The only problem with Sunday is that the Forest Rangers are not as easy to get to help out. Saturday is usally not to bad, but Sundays the Ranger's that are on duty are usally patroling the forest.

Well lets scratch the 10th, and plan the clean up at a later point in time. Looks like a bunch of folks can't make it so we'll plan it for a later date when more can attend. I don't want to plan a trip for a cleanup without at least 10 solid confirmations.

don't be discouraged wes....it is a good idea that will pay off for all of us when we can get it organized....

in the mean time, we can continue to chat it up here and maybe find some other way to get together soon.....I've been wanting to make a road trip to olustee, fla.....u.s. hwy 90 just east of lake city.....the osceola national forest is accessed from that area....it would be a long day for all of us.....probably 3 hour drive from orlando just to get there.....but it might appeal to some names in north florida along the interstate 10 corridor....I think lewis and his wife and their friends with the white rubicon are from up that way....

the truth is for me, I'm only getting a few opportunities to get with you guys these days....we're never going to find a date when all can schedule attending something.....folks are just going to have to plan outings for themselves when they can and invite others by posting it up here....no one's feelings should be hurt if they can't get the time to participate....and we should all realize that here in florida, we have limited places to go that would even be worth the drive....

heck, I don't even have tow hooks right now so I need some time to fix my jeep up before I go anywhere....

No worries, I'm sure this clean up will work out one day, I still plan on riding on the 10th if anyone wants to go. I just don't want to waste the time of the rangers on a small group. So with that said, does anyone want to just ride on the 10th?? I have a factory rear tow hook if you want it Steve. I had to take it off to mount the class three hitch. It's not worth putting on ebay so if you want it, it's yours. Takes all of 10 seconds to put it on.

I've got one just about like that but it uses a shackle instead of a hook, but I paid about $30 for it. $12, dang I got to go to the flea market.
