I've searched the site for an answer and didn't come up with anything solid, so I'm very sorry if this has been covered a million times already :?

I'm getting the 2.5" Frankenlift with JBA's UCA's and the two upper Iso's for each side in the rear on my 03' Liberty Rene`. I'm looking at getting either 17x8 or 16x8 rims with probably the Goodyear Wrangler MT/R's or similar tire with side tread.

I've narrowed my rim search down to about 7 styles that I like. The Backspacing ranges from 4" to 5 1/4". I know that people say to use a 31" tire, but there really aren't any 31" tires out there for 16 or 17" wheels. They are either 30.5" or 31.6" I don't really know which way to go when people say 31's? I don't mind doing the pinch weld mod, but don't really want to do any other trimming if I don't have to and I really don't want to damage my fender flairs! I'm looking at either 245 or 265 wide tires with the varying heights and rim size ot get 31". I'm not looking to change gearing and don't want my power and milage to suffer too badly. Plus I'd like the wheels and rims to stick out further to give it a wider stance and better looks.

I need some help on the following:

~ 16 or 17" rims and which look better on 31" tires?
~ Do I go with 245 or 265 width?
~ Do I go with 30.5 or 31.5" tires?
~ Which backspacing should I use to select my rims with the tire selection?

Thanks for any feed back! And again sorry for any repeat questions! I'd rather get everything ordered right the first time around :)

A 31x10.50-15 tire is NOT exactly 31". Brands all will vary.

A 265/70-16 is the metric equivalent of a 31x10.50-15...so for KJ 16" wheels, that's what you want if you are going for the 31x10.50 look.

Personally, I think that the stock wheels are nicer than steel wheels because of the huge weight savings. But if you think you'll scratch them up a lot...go with steel.

I won't be getting steel wheels at all. I'll be going the way of aluminum such as MotoMetal and Mamba black/silver styles. All are only offered in an 8" wide rim.

Thanks!

Would the MB wheels Chaos 5 wheels (16x8.5) fit with 245/75/16 Goodyear Duratracs?

Not if you plan on wheeling it.Keep the 8"+ wide rims for 12.50"(315 or wider for metric) or wider tires.

Oh and pretty much any tire then the stock size and rating(P) your going to loose power and mpg's.

Thanks for the info! It looks like those 8.5" rims would have the same backspacing as the stock rims and have the same inspacing as a 8"rim with 5" of backspacing or a 7" wide rim with 4" of backspacing. Thats why I was wondering if it would fit.

Also, I'm looking at getting the Goodyear Duratrac 245/75/16's. I can get them in a 108Q(load C) or a 120Q (load E, I think) Just wondering which one I should get. The 108's are 5 pounds lighter so I was thinking of maybe those would be better for MPG's and power??? Is there much difference? I drive 95% road and the rest at places such as The Badlands in Indiana and the dunes in Michigan. Any advice???

Thanks!

8.5 inch rims are too wide if you want to flex any at all.
Duratracs are good tires, mines been all over the Badlands, through snow last winter and do a great job

This is a highly debated subject but imo load c is the way to go. They are lighter, will ride more comfortable and will conform better to terrain. Load E have more plys so they are heavier and have stiffer sidewalls.

Well I finally ordered my rims and tires! I got the Pro Comp 7031's, 16x8 with 4.5" of backspacing and Cooper Discoverer STT's, load C. I had to get the 255/70/16 tires because Coopers web site said that the 245's shouldn't be run on an 8" rim. I'm hopping that they don't rub too much in the wheel wells. I'll do the pinch weld mod for sure.

Does anyone know if these will fit on the spare tire mount? If not what is a good one to go with?

Also, Should I get these Siped, siping before putting them on the truck? I can get it for free because they didn't ask me if I wanted it when I ordered the tires at Discount Tire and if they don't ask its free

Thanks!

Will do! Hopefully have them on by next Thursday. The tires were special order since they didn't have any in their warehouses.

Sure do look nice! I think ill be ordering a set of 5 through 4wd hardware. They are having a sale on all pro comp alloys through November, found the thread on another forum. Still undecided though. I might just end up spending the mod money elsewhere and paint my MOABs a gunmetal or charcoal color.
