so this is the deal i can get but will it fit stock + a clevis lift?
the rims will be 15X8 with probably 4.5 back spacing black steelies with 29X10.5 super swamper STS all for around $500 inc m&b

i know that the STS is not a good tire but to get 4 for about $300 is very cheep
some one ordered them through a local shop and never picked them up a cash deposit was put so i will get that discount and pay the differance
the shop cannot move them

i know that they are no good in mud probably not very good in the rocks but my wife ,who drives the KJ daily, likes the way they look and we are getting close to needing tires so to get tires and rims for less than what just the tires would cost for 16" rims sounds like a good deal?
i just dont know if they will fit and we hate rubbing

Hmm, thats a tough one to think about. The 29" tire would fit fine(mine came with that stock), but its the width I would be worried about. With 4.5" BS the front would be fine with the sway bar and Im not to sure how the pinch weld would do. Im sure the rear would rub if stuffed. You may need to get some extended bumpstops and I may be selling some homemade ones for cheap soon.

Also, make sure those rims will fit before buying them. There are only certain 15" rims that will fit, and those may since they are so wide.

why do you think the rear would rubb and where?
the tires i have now are about 1"-1.5" narrower but dont even come close to rubbing at full stuff
would the whole wheel being further out making the rear axel longer making the up travel at the end if the axel more thingy cause the rub?

It will hit the fender. This is my 30x10 generals and rims with 5" BS before my extended bumpstop.

Jeepster,

Have you measured your actual backspacing? My wheels are 3.750" bs and rub about the same as yours........something ain't right.

How do you measure BS mutt? From the mounting point to the outside of the rim or inside? Remember, I have the 255's but that still shouldnt account for why Im rubbing with 5" BS and you have 3.75 BS. I looked at my invoice and it says 5" BS.

Measure the back side of the wheel from the hub flange to the bead on the rim. It's easiest if you put a straight edge across the bead on the rim.

3.75" bs would put the tires tread in that photo out even with the outside of the flare insted of inside the flare.

I put my 15x8's with 3.75" bs from my XJ on our KJ and the tires stuck out of the flare about 2" sitting flat. That was with my old 30x9.5's. I don't see how any 8" wheel with 3.75" bs would work on the KJ with anything taller than maybe a 28"-29" tire, and they would still rub.

I had the tire shop put on some 16x8's with 4.5" bs and my 245/75R16's, and they rubbed in front sitting flat, and just hit the flares in back when we jacked up one corner (to flex it).

I stayed with the stock wheels for now. 16x7 with 5.25" bs. A 16x8 with 5.0" bs would have worked, but 8's looked to wide for my tires. I'll keep looking for some 16x7's with 4.5" bs.
