Hi guys, first post but an avid reader. I've gleaned through many posts in this section but still can't quite find a 100% answer to the above.

It's time for new rubber for my unlifted 06 CRD. I definitely want to go 245/70/R16 (nothing too radical, General Grabber AT or Firestone Destination A/T) and kiss the minivan look goodbye. I also want to go the black wheel look (Cragar Soft 8 or D window 16x7 4" BS) and get the rims further out. A lift isn't in the immediate plans for this vehicle (will come eventually) and i'm unsure how bad of rubbing i might actually get with this combo until then. I'm sure the pinch welds will need to go and possibly some fender trimming, but does anyone have real world experience with this combo? If it matters i'm not doing much offroading presently.

Unlifted 06 KJ + 245/70R16 A/T + Cragar Soft 8 16x7= livable? trouble? horrible?

Or should i just wait till i get the lift in hand for the Cragars and paint my alloys black

Any advice is appreciated

-Benjamin

First, welcome! Second, I think the 4" bs will hurt you while you're unlifted. On stock alloys (that are 5.5" backspaced to compare just how far you're going to be pushing the tires out with the cragers) the 245/70's would fit with your mods to pinch weld and possibly some fender up front depending on the miles on your suspension. I'd personally wait for the wheels till after you're lifted. That leaves money to go toward the lift anyway :seuss: .

I had 245/70 R16 LTX on mine with no lift on the stock rims and there was no rubbin. With the off set you will rub. I all so had to same tires on with the soft 8's with 2in backspace with no lift and they rubbed. Good luck and welcome.

Welcome

I have 245/70R16 Hercules Terra Trac AT on my CRD with stock Rims and have no Ribbing. I'm got plans for a lift but it's still going to be a while. I don't know how the soft 8's with less backspace will work... If it were me I wouldn't try it... god luck if you do. In general I think it was agreed not long ago that the CRD stock springs are better and don't sag as soon as the Gassers do so you may be ok but still what would you do it there is too much rubbing?

I do think that black wheels will look good on a silver Liberty. Not sure how you can paint the stock alloy rims and have good results. I do know Budke has painted his stock steel rims a charcoal or black color. His looked to have turned out well. Maybe the same product will work.

There is a guy who bought 15x7 w/4" backspacing and smaller 235/70 tires and he had rub issues

Thanks for the replies and welcomes. I suppose i'll have to follow the best advice path and just go with the slight upsize on the tires and do the wheels the right way with a lift down the road

Regarding painting the alloys, a gal at work has a newer Cherokee that this was done to by a local shop and the results look very good so i might have to inquire. i'll post results if i go down this path.
