Anyone run 235/85R16's? Now that I'm getting a Frankenlift, I'm looking at new rubber... Looking at the Dayton Timberline MT's looks like about $150 each.

Wow 235/85 calculates out to 31.73 inches tall.
the 265/75 calculate out to be 31.65 inches tall: so its close to what others have called the maximum.
the 255/75 calculate out to be 31.05 inches tall:
The 245/75 MTR's that are real common are about 30.5 inches tall
The 255/70 size is about 30.1 inches tall

Hey, it's in the sticky as will work (maybe) with a 2.5" lift. I expect it may rub on a stuff into the well, but I plan on trimming the pinch weld prior to fitting them, and maybe getting some spidertrax spacers too.

There are a handful of people on this board that run them on their KJ. Hopefully one will chime in. I would be intresting to see the fitment in person. I'm sure they will fit better than the 265/75R16 due to being narrow.

Check out this post. Seem a couple people on that thread are running them.

I rolled one up next to the 245/70's and it was huge!. I think you would have to do some major trimming in the front. BTW BFG mud terrains...

I just went to Discount Tire and tried 265/70's. With the 1.25" spacer it rubbed both front and back of the wheel well. With out the spacer the upper A arm rubbed on the inside of the tire but did not rub on the wheel well when turned.. I ended up ordering 245/75's. I didn't try the 235's.

Why? I hate mud (I know, we live in Ohio and all we'll get here is mud), but why will I hate a 1" narrower tire? (i.e., same width as I have now)

From some PM's to folks listing 235/85's, it sounds like the will with the pinch weld flat. As every jeep is a little different, the only true test will be fitting them on... I'll post back in the winter when I plan on upgrading (prior to Moab!)

It will also depend on which wheels you are running. I had no pinch weld contact while I had my Renny wheels on.(245/75 MT/R) And major pinch weld rubbing when I switched to Rubi wheels. (same tires).

The guy I bought my Moabs wheels/tires from had put 235/85's on his Rubi. They were taller for sure but, to skinny. It didn't look right to me. IMO :)

But good luck. The more combos tried...the better for all of us.

I didn't mention anything about hate, mud, or 1'' narrower.

With 32's, you're going to run in to rubbing and stuffing issues with the stock bumper, unless you're going to cut off the fog light portion of the bumper and relocate the washer bottle.
In the rear you'll need additional spring spacers and about a 2.5" long bump stop to bolt to your spring perch to limit stuffing. An adjustable rear lower control arm would also be helpfull.

Now do you understand what I meant by: "you'll wish later, you had gone with 245/75's instead".

I now understand your comments. My preconception about wider (245-265mm) tires was that folks wanted the float.
