So i just got my poopy Dueler H/T tires exchanged because 2 went flat and one had a hemerage in its sidewall (It was from a pot hole on Route 309), anyway... I had a 60,000 mile warranty for these tires and i had them for the better part of 25,000 miles. So Costco gave me 4 Michelin Cross Terrain SUV tires. I have read bad reviews on Tirerack.com, but i wanted to know if anyone has them, and if so, how are they off-road, i mean the tread looks rather aggressive, but its no BFGoodrich All-Terrain tire...

Here are some pics for reference:

Hope those pics help.

Michelin makes very good car tires, I don't know about their truck/suv tires. They look a little too tame to me, I wouldn't try them in the mud. We run BFG AT's on our KJ, and it has only gotten stuck once so far. 30"-31" all-terrain tires & a 2 foot deep x 40 foot long pit of thick sticky mud just don't mix well.

Sorry, no pics of that one.

yea well i wouldn't be playing in that kind of mud, but i think the tread is aggressive, jsut not a big as the tread on the BFGs..

you need to go to the news stand a pick up any of the many off road related magazines because if you think that tire looks "aggressive" what do you think of these?

I realize that this tire may be a little "extreme" for most but even a top quality MT or AT would be better for any type of off roading than that will
but if you never go off road they will last for ever and give a real good ride I do realize that not every body likes road noise and some may go off road only 1 or 2 times a year so if that is what you do then great but do not expect much at all as far as off road
I hade them on an F250 work truck and got like 60K out of them
It was 2wd but I would get stuck in wet grass with them

Super swampers dont really make a good a mud tire either. They are mostly just for show so thats what im told by every discount tire company i went to. The BFG mudders will probably be one of the best mud tires out there.

well mud aside, dirt i encounter in the summer/spring and snow/slush i encounter fall/winter.

Its in the snow and slush where i'll know if i got my money's worth though...309 in the winter...in a blizzard...thats the test grounds. (309 is a hazardous highway by me. Especially when icy/slushy. Anyone from the montgomeryville, pa area will testify to truth of my statement)

Dude I do not know who has been lieing to you but I am from south LA and have wheeled from TX to TN and hands down when I get in to mud the guys with swampers make it
They will climb hills better also
They are not very good on hard packed "concrete dirt" but aside from that they will kick the crap out of any other MT in the mud

The Cross Terrains are very good all season snow/ice tires. Lots of sipes. I'll bet you'll like them this winter.

I had a set of 245/65R16 Cross Terrains on mine. They handled a lot better than the stock SRA's. They also had much better traction on wet roads, and on snow and ice. They were very smooth and quiet. I was very satisfied with them. I'm running 245/65R17 Destianation AT's now. They are not quite as smooth and quiet, but the traction is improved over the Cross Terrains. They handle better also, but they are lower profile, and on 7.5" rims instead of 7" rims, so that really isn't a fair comparisson.

My dad has michelins (not sure if they're cross terrains, though) on his rx330 and they preform great on the road. They're quiet and corner well. I definately wouldnt recommend them for offroad use, however.

These Michs were rated average in Consumers Report for pavement. Not great in wet nor snow.... if u subscribe to their website, you can look it up.

My bud has the Mich on his MDX and likes them but there are many better SUV tires.

Cons Rep rated the Tripletred and HL versions of the GY Forteras tops. I love them particularly in wet. Got em based upon Cons Reports 2005 review of All Season passenger tires... rated No 1 for the tripletred passenger tires so I got the SUV Fortera version.

I had the GY Fortera's HL's and also the Tripletreads based upon Consumer Rep's SUV/truck in 2004 and last years Top rating for passenger tire who compare them side for wet, dry, handling braking emergency etc etc objectively and found them good too. I had the stock GY ST, GSA and also the Mich Artic Ice snows. The Trips gripped as good as my snows. I highway mostly and city with little or no off roading.

I buy the best tire on the market with $$ not an issue based upon CS report since I spun out on stockers long ago too. It rains here alot!!!

My advice is that the ratings on the tire shop sites are fine but are subjective to the individual based upon their past tire usage and don't measure them objectively... it's like I like KJ's while others like Explorers... all opinions and everybody has one...
