I have less than 2000 miles on my stockers and will be getting new tires soon so I want to know if some tire places will buy them? I don't expect to get alot for them, but I don't want to just give the tire shop a set of new tires either.

What is everyone else doing with their tires?

If your looking to make money, sell them here or wherever. Discount Tire gave me $25.00 for a unused spare (org). As for the four at the corners, although I didn't care, they waived the used tire gov't disposal surcharge, which was fine by me.

I sold mine to a local mechanic for 175 (5) when I got my MTs. A junkyard/"auto-recycler" may take them off your hands also.

I sold mine to a used tire dealer here in Fresno. Mine had somewhere in the ballpark of 5500 miles to their name. I got 70 bucks if I remember right. I had nowhere else to store them since I live in an apartment, so I took the cash and left the tires. It is REALLY HARD to find places that will pay over 100 bucks to let you know. I walked out on other places who offered less like the other posts stated but after a few weeks of that I figured this was ridiculous and I had to get em out of my KJs trunk! Good luck.

I got $75 EACH for mine with only 588 miles on them. Swap them out quick or they will be worth nothing.

I found a shop listed in the phone book that sold/bought new and used tires. Got $150 for 5 SR/As with only 8100 miles on 4 of them. Out of my hands 1 hour after I got my Dueler A/Ts.

I bought 4 tires and tried to get the guy to throw the fifth one in for free for 4 stocks with 30,000 on them and one unused spare. Not only did he say no way but he wouldnt even give me any discount for them! lol

I was stuck at that point, didnt want to carry them home with me and they had already started putting the new ones on. It was fine though, I couldnt wait to get rid of them, I was just hoping for a deal.

QUESTION - I have a 2002, the spare has never been used and I still have it on the Jeep (see above) but should I trade it out anyway? It looks to be in good condition but technically it is three years old. I didnt know if there were any saftey issues or anything with using it if I ever needed to.

Tires do have a shelf life as even car manufacturers are advocating a max 6 year life regardless of tread. Check out the DOT date on your tire. The spare is just an interim tool so you can drive to the service shop... you shouldn't mix tires on a vehicle as it may affect handling and braking etc.

Thanks Liberator, I will check into that.

At the time, I didnt have the extra money for a 5th tire. My plan was to keep the original spare for now (its covered anyway - lol) and if something were to happen I would use it just longer enough to drive to the tire place and replace it as well as get a new spare.

I havent done much but very light off roading so I didnt think it would be an issue doing it this way for now.
