I want tires that won't kill my mileage, a little larger than the originals, have good road manners, but will also work for me off road, like fire roads and such. I also don't want any rubbing the inner fender wells.
What size/type would you recommend?

hey cool a fellow 5spd member :) most of us run 245 75 16's but some of us have cramed 265's your best bet is a 245-75-16 because you dont have to trim out your fender and you have some room left for flexing... as far as a tire make... so many diffrent options. when my tires are gone im planning on getting a set of bf goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO's if you have a samsclub around you you can pick them up for 102.00 each here is some more info on them..http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp ... n+T%2FA+KO

Go with a 245/75/16 and either the TA KO or the Bridgestone Dueler Revo. If you're in it for looks and price then go KO. If you want excellent handling, low noise, and good ride then go with the Revo.

Like Ted said, the 255/70/16 is probably the second most popular size. The 245/75 is a little taller and the 255/70 is a little wider. It just depends what your preference is.

How about 235/85s? Obviously there would be greater difference on the final drive ratio but a skinnier tire would have less wind resistance on the highway. Would the less width of the 235/85 have about the same rubbing issues as the wider 245/75?

Look at the weight rating for a 235/85. Also remember that that weight is extended further out from the center of the wheel than the shorter tires. My guess is that you would lose more energy from the weight than you would from aerodynamics.

I'm planning for this spring to get the Frankenlift, and some tires. What is the difference in the 2 tires sizes for the rubbing / trimming would need to be done with these combos, not including the pinch weld? I will most likely Revos. I have a 2005 Renny and won't have to deal with bumper fog light wells. I still want to use the factory rims, but will have have to use any spacers with either tire?

There probably wouldn't be any trimming involved. Every KJ is a bit different however, so don't quote me on that. With a 245/75 Revo on stock rims I never did one bit of trimming (however they rubbed on the swaybar at full lock).

When I started running the Rubi rims and 245/75 MTRs I stopped getting the rubbing on the swaybar, but had just a little on the pinchweld while offroad. I took a sledge to the pinchwelds and have no more problems.

Just like four big flywheels; I will call them Off-Road Momentum Storage Capacitors

Skyjump, what's your opinion on trimming for 235/85s on an '06 sport??

What's the backspacing on the Rubi rims (and the stock rims too)? would this be the difference in the swaybar rubbing or not?

The backspacing is definitely the difference between swaybar contact or not.

What is the backspacing for the 16" stock rims? the Rubi's from your other thread were 5.25 and the 17" limited rims were 5.5. If the 16" Stock rims were also 5.5, is there a way to change the backspacking from 5.5 to 5.25 with spacers or something that is not dangerous. I really like my stock rims (and not the cost to replace them) and want to keep them if i can. Also i like the low tire pressure sensor. Could those sensors be moved to the rubi rims?

On the Jeep:
Rubicon "Moab" Rims 16X8 w/ 5.25 backspacing
MTRs 245/75/16 (load rating E)

Now sitting in the corner of my garage:
03 Limited rims 16X7 w/ 5.5 backspacing
245/75/16 Bridgestone Dueller AT Revo (LT - Load rating C)

The original Limited rims are 16". They didn't change that until last year I believe. Should be the same as all the other stock rims.
