Yep, it's been done. Jacksjeep ran those with a 2" Revtech lift.

I run that size on my 02 without a lift. It only rubs at full lock when turning and it is not that much. With a lift, you might not have to trim anything.

Thanks for the info. I'm pretty sure that is what I will be running...What brand of tire are you running Winkelhawk?

Just put 255/70/16 Wrangler MT/R's on stock 16x7 rims....tire guy di a quick-look on the front said I was interfering with hard turns but had plenty in the vertical...Guy was a bit of a Richard, so I need to see how bad.

No lift as yet, but thinking I may need to bite the bullet a go for it even though the Libby is a virgin...any thoughts?...most of the RI shops push the skyjacker spacer kits for around ~$360 and seem to hem and haw when I ask about shop sevices to do the install...

any recommendations for a good shop to work with in New England area...RI / MA / NH?

advise much appreciated...

They will hit your lower A-arm on a full lock turn but a 245/75 will not (at least mine don't). This is the reason why I took off the 265/70's, then the 255/70's and went to a 245. When yer wheelin' in the mountians, you need to be able to make the switchbacks!

Chickened out....decided I would try a skinny / mini to dodge lifts on my virgin '05 Libby Ltd (and the resultant warranty angst..).

Looks like if I go with the Firestone Destination M/T in a 225/75/16 I end up with 29.5" diameter (vs 29" OEM) and a sectional width of 9.2" (vs 9.4" OEM)...FYI - Wrangler MT/R's in 225/75/16 look like a discontinued size...national back-order)...

...my hope is I can jump these M/T's on with no lifts, no grinding, no interferences (and no hassles with the warranty fairies)...

thoughts / comments..

Here is the tire I went with. General Grabber AT2 in 255/70 on the stock rims.

And here is how it looks on my lifted Liberty.

I went with the 255 because it was a touch shorter than the 245/75. I wanted the least effect on my gear ratio. My speedometer is still accurate to within 2mph.

I got the tires for $87 each at Tire Rack. So far I'm very pleased. They are quiet and work well off road. Very minimal rubbing. Trust me, I tried.

Cliff (cb4017), I LOVE those tires!! I have never seen them before. They look just like the BF Goodrich ATs, but they are half the price! And I'm sure they are great tires as well. Thanks for that picture!! I might go with those now!

225/75/16 Destination M/T's with no lift on stock rims.

http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=137

Also, 245/70/16 Revo's will fit as well (if the M/T is too aggressive for you)

Hope this helps!

I'm rolling 255/70 16 BFG AT's on AR Mojave 16x8 4.50in BS. 05' Lib
with Skyjacker lift, minimal rubbing on lower front edges of front wheel
wells, and trimmed the left and right sides off of the black plastic
air deflector underneath the front bumper. It's all good now.....

The industry standard for rims is that the rim width must be within 4" of the section width for proper seating. So a 33x12.5 tire should be on nothing smaller that an 8.5" rim. But they work great on 8" rims and many guys swear that keeps the bead seated better.

So, I'd convert the section width of any tire you are looking at into inches, then see where it stacks up to the stock rim width. IIRC, the 255 is about 10" wide and 7" rims would be fine.

I'm pretty sure there'd be some good rubbing on the 255's w/o a lift. 245/70 (I've read) will fit w/o problems, but I would think 255 is pushing it.

I am running the 265/75's on my stock 16" rims. Yes I have rub at full lock but it isn't enough to make me want to take them off and where I'm at in Texas there aren't any mountain to ride up anyways. The closest thing I see to that is when I go to the hill country and it should perform fine..I'll let you know after labor day weekend.

Did you have to do any triming to get the 265/75's to fit Jeremy?

No hillcountry..I luckily didn't have to do any trimming. I haven't taken it offraod yet..unless you count the road that I live on. It's a dirt road with some wash out areas..some as much as a foot or so deep and I haven't had any problems with rub in those cases. The front tires will rub a full turn but I just compensate for that with the turn radius and it's fine. We'll see how she holds up in the next few weeks and I may have to trim after I take her to the hillcountry on labor day. I'll keep you posted.
