I am looking at 265/70/16 BFG M/T's to go on rubicon wheels, so here's my question...

The specs from the tire factory say the rim width of the wheel should be 7-8" and I am wondering if that would be an issue pushing off the bead too easy using the wider (8") rim. Any input?

Thanks!

If I understand you correctly that is the recommended width that tire should fit per the manufacturer's specs.... it should be 7" to 8". That being said, the Rubi Goodyear MTRs were recommended for the 6.5" - 8" size.

If the approved rim width is up to 8" and the Rubicon rims are 8" you should be fine. Unless I'm missing something...

Whether or not the tire fits on the wheel is not an issue, BUT when you're wheeling and your push on the side (off camber, pushing on a rock, or what have you), if your tire is just barely wide enough for the rim, then it's easier to push the bead and lose you air when otherwise you might not (say if you had a wider tire, or skinnier rim).

On the street I know the tire/wheel combo is ok, just wondering if anyone has that width combo and works great, or had issues off road.

(Does that make anymore sense now?)

Think about this. The Rubi, where the wheels came off of, runs 245/75's.

I think that 265/70 is the perfect tire and wheel combo for our KJ's. It is definatly what I would have done if I could have afforded the Rubi wheels.

This should be fine. There's no more chance of loosing a bead with this combo than any other. If the tire was approved for a 6" rim and you were putting it on a 8" rim then I'd be concerned.
