People, if you own a full size spare, USE IT.

If not, a 4 tire rotation on a 4WD as I recall is in an x pattern. Check tirerack.com for info on proper rotation (or your owners manual, novel idea).

What I've seen over the years recommended by mfgs of tires, is:

FWD: front straight back. Backs cross to front.
RWD: backs straigh up, fronts cross to the back.
4WD: 4 tires: x pattern or use the RWD pattern.
5 tires: RWD pattern except insert spare as FL to S; S to RR.

You want all tires to all positions at some point.

This all goes out the window for directional tires of course. And if you have directional tires that are larger in the rear (like most performance cars like M3's, C6's etc) then just drive them and replace them (OFTEN!). no rotating allowed.
