My stock tires were okay. But I need to get all terrians with some meat for this winter. Specially with the baby in the Liberty this winter.

Can any of you guys that used your stock tires long enough to have survived a winter with them let me know how they handle. I would buy a better set but alas the funds are low at the moment. |

Deepish or fresh snow was OK. Slush and ice was scary. I ran out and got Revo's after my first winter. Difference was night and day. Just changed to BFG's after the lift. I really liked the Revos but the BFGs are severe winter rated and look really cool, so I'm trying them this time. |

I used them for a full winter and they werent bad, I agree with them being a little scary on ice though but I drove slow when I knew it was bad conditions. I think I decided to switch when I slid in the rain once, I can deal with minor sliding in the snow if I am driving too fast (kind of like a warning to slow down) but not in light rain. Scared the hell out of me. |

See my sig for the kind of tires DCX chose to outfit my Liberty with. I have owned it since 2002 and driven it through 3 or 4 snow storms and many times through 6" + inches. I haven't had any problems with the tires in the winter at all. On ice, I slid once (my fault on a hill with too much speed) but the ABS kicked in and saved my butt. Next spring I'll buy some Revo's, but so far the Good-for-a-years have done great in the snow. |

Winter tires will give a huge improvement, I'd say cutting your stopping distances roughly in half. Sometimes what counts is not so much how fast you stop per se, but that you're stopping faster than the guy in front of you!  IMHO, all-season tires are inferior in the summer, and inferior in the winter.  Also IMHO, the best winter tires are: Nokian Hakepelitta studded (what I use now), Gislaved Nordfrost studded (had on my Honda), and Bridgestone Blizzak (had on my Grand Cherokee) respectively.

I am going into my third winter with my KJ. It was built with Goodyear Wrangler 235/70 R16s. Basically an all-season radial. Ask yourself what you want the tires to do. The all-seasons are fine if you take it easy on ice, but there are way better choices for mud, deep snow, etc. Take a look at the tire reviews on this site: http://www.1010tires.com/. Good tech info about tires and tire sizing, etc. Happy wheeling.

Depending on howmuch milage you got on them, they aren't too terrible if you can believe it. Now, with that said, i'm getting some get all terrains around thanksgiving. First winter we got slammed with snow, but the tires were still good, so they worked fine. Got lucky last year with almost no snow, so didn't really need them. Not gonna risk it this winter. I got a feeling, based on the acorns in my backyard, we're in for a long, cold, and snowy winter.....which is just fine with me!

BTW, my 05 Lib has 225/75-16 Goodyear Wrangler STs. They only have like 3,000 miles on them so I can so for sure how well they do. I want to swap my REVOs from my 98 Explorer on to them, so the STs will be For Sale REAL soon! |

I have snow tires for all of my vehicles, it is a night and day difference. I put the 225/75-16 Dunlop SJ6's on the KJ this year. Just waiting for a good slippery day to test them.
