I am about to buy 15x7 397 Cragars w/ 4.25" backspacing and 31x10.5 General Grabber AT2. Hoping people will chime in with suggestions if they think this is or isn't going to work. I'm pretty sure I want the 15" wheel. With my lift in front I measured 21" center of hub to corner of the flare. Minor trimming will be ok, I have already done the pinch welds and plan on cutting the bumper. Hopefully I did enough research and people will agree this should work. Thanks.

Yes it's been done before. I like the way smaller steel wheels look.

I run 15X8 Pro Comps steel wheels with 3.75" bs and they don't rub. The cragars should be fine too. I also run 31x10.5x15 Trxus tires and they rubbed a lot. Cut front bumper, bashed the pinch weld and they still rub a tiny bit at full lock.

Are you sure that you are looking at the right wheel
I thought that those wheels had 3.75" B/S
and while yes some have run that size all have a Frank + trimming
the problem is not the OD but more the B/S on the rims

The way I keep preaching is simple
keep the OE wheels ,it is cheeper any way
run a 254/75 tire on that wheel it will 9 times out of 10 be a 8 or 10 ply tire vs a 6 ply on the 15" wheel which makes it better off road ,stronger side wall
you will have less rub and the OD is basically the same so you gain NOTHING but a big head ache

That Crager is available in 4" BS (3975712) & 4.25" BS (3975712P), but not 3.75"

It took less than 60 seconds to check that out....

Cragers on NOLAKJ's measure 3.75 smart @ss
we though the same thing but when he was getting all kinds of rub we took off the spare and measured
and that took about 5 minutes and my tape measure is not wrong
besides that .25 to.5" will not be enough to count
remember I have the lift in question and also have tires with the same OD and about .5" narrower than the ones in question or at least really close
I have them on rims with 5.5" of BS and it is CLOSE so if I move the out side of the tire 1.75 -1.5" to the out side of the wheel well then my rear flairs would be TRASHED along with the fender liner and door jam

I guess you believe every thing you read on the internet?

Real world experience and some simple math along with a helping of common sense goes REAL far

My rims are in to the wheel well 1.5 to 1.25" more
my tires are .5" narrower so .25 of that on each side of center
add up the difference and presto you moved the out side of the tire 1.5 to 1.75" considering that I can not stick my hand between the tire and fender flair and it measures just about .75" and most tires have some kind of tread on the out side of the lug to grab stuff then you would have a problem with that last .75" to 1" and well the flairs would not like it
Now you could bump stop the hell out of it ,2"+ would do it but why?
just keep the OE wheels and run tires that fit

I hope I did not loose you with all that

I would have kept the oem wheels on mine and painted them black, but they are 16s and the tires I wanted to run were 15s, so no go. You have to make do with what you have and decide what you want to run and go from there.

I agree with you as far as pick your tires and go from there ,that is what I did with the TJ
but he wants to run AT2's so no real need for 15" rims
besides you are running Swampers and they run big and you got what you wanted ,TRACTION
The list of AT's that will fit a 16" rim and fit his rig is a long one
even MT's in a 245/76 is a long list

Let's see: Crager's website vs. you: Umm. Crager, thanks. Especially with such scientific measures as " I couldn't stick my hand in there so...." :D

Good point. I know there are a ton of options out there for a 16", which I wanted to run (265/75/16) but I got a screaming good deal on my Swampers so that swayed my choice as well. So if we knew why he was going with the wheel and tire combo it would help too. $$$ was the deciding factor for me.

Also, I know there are a couple of near identical "cragar" soft 8 style wheels out there. Maybe that is where the confusion is as far as backspacing goes. The Pro Comp ones come in 3.75, 4.0, 4.25, & 4.5. The Cragar come in 4.0, 4.25, 4.5, 4.75, 5.0, & 5.5. I am not sure if there are other styles out there or not, but it sounds like Jason is talking about the Pro Comp and not the Cragar. My 2 cents.

All those steel rims are made for procrap and Crager by Unique Steel, they all are identical, made in the same place but sold under different names and prices.

I am looking for a bit wider stance. and I would imagine side to side stability comes along with a wider stance. Also again i like the look of smaller black steel wheels. Maybe I'll just order the tires and try to find a local place that carries different size wheels and allows me to test fit. Problem is, aside from never seeing a tire place that carries those wheels I also imagine if they did they wouldn't have the specific selection of sizes I need, and then help me try them. I am still not confident enough in a backspacing size that would be close to where I would like it and be able to work with as far as trimming.

Whether you go with 30x9.5R15s, 31x10.5R15s, 245/75R16s, 265/70R16s, or even 265/75R16s...you're going to have some sort of rubbing. If you keep your backspacing somewhere around 4" to 5" on your rims, you'll keep that rubbing to a minimum compared to anything more or less. The stock rims (5.5" BS) WILL cause rubbing even with 245/75R16s...but you can trim 'her up, it's easy.

If you want minimal rubbing but bigger tires, go with 30x9.5R15s on a 15" wheel with 4.25" or 4.5" BS...or 245/75R16s on 16" rims with similar BS or get 1.25" wheel spacers for your stock rims.
