This is kind of a generic answer without knowing exactly your setup, but in reality, it’s all about the look you want. I like the backspacing that my Moabs (16X8’s) offer, but I also don‘t run anything taller than a 31” tire. I might use my factory 17X7 rims for my offroad set. Depending on your backspacing and tire width you choose, the 16X8 will encourage you to go with a wider tire, which isn’t always best if you want a tall tire (31.5" - 32"). If you are wanting to stay below a 31” tire, then the 16X8 would be fine (not as many rubbing issues). If you are wanting a 32” tire, then I would stick with the 16X7 or 17x7 rims. In many cases, I’ve seen certain brands of tires offer more sizes in the 17X7 category than I did for the 16X7 category. Depending on the brand of tire you want, I would definitely consider the 17X7.

Tires are 245/75/16..31's.....I have Rusty's lift now, but will be switching that too a Frankenlift come DEC.

I have 16 x 7's 4 BS now that I run my Irok's on

this will be a second set for my MT/R's which will be street only

Tough decision there, but I would go with the 16X7 inch rim, it just might corner a little better in the city than a 16X8.

I think that an 8" rim is too wide for a tire that narrow. I think you will have better tire retention if you go 7".

virtually every tire that fits under a KJ - will run better on a 7" rim - the only size that's reasonable with an 8" is the 265 - and even those can be run at a lower pressure on a 7" rim.

(check Tirerack's recommended rim width - even the MTR 245/75/16 - the 8" Moab is at the max rim allowed - 7" would be center of the range)

Just to add.................

The MOAB's have a extra lip inside the beads to help retain the 245's that aftermarket rims do not have. Also a 245 tire will be shorter on a 8" rim then a 7" rim,you will also get better tire wear on a 7" rim with 245's.
