Hi, all,

So my Liberty comes with 225 tires that are load range C. Many of the tires that I think would serve a bit better (better flat protection because of more plies, a bit larger, etc.) come in load range D or E. I'm wondering whether going to a stiffer tire like that will have a strong effect on the ride quality. I've never made a jump in load ranges before.

Will it feel like I'm riding on the rims? What has been your experience? Thanks!

I jumped load ranges when I put tires on my Ford Ranger back when I had that little truck. The change gave me more rear-end wheel hop and a bit harsher ride across bumps (especially when hitting a bump in the middle of a corner). But it did stop the sloppy soft-wall "wiggling" that was a condition with my stock Ranger tires (which the stock Goodyears on the Liberty do too).

Higher load range tires will protect you better off-road and they will resist cuts and punctures a little better.

However, they will also ride like crap in the winter when it's cold and they will cost you money because your fuel economy will suffer. It takes more power to turn those heavy tires and your fuel gauge will prove it.

So really it's a tradeoff...which is more important to you? Hauling, towing, and off road? Or efficiency on road?
