I bought a set of Treadwright A/T-G tires back in October. Yes, they are retreads, but for the price, I figured I would give them a try. I searched all over the net and only found good reviews of them. So I figured I would share my experience with everyone here for your future tire possibilities. This is my first update, and I will update about every 4000 miles each time I rotate them.

They looked like very good quality when they arrived. They were pretty well balanced too. The tire shop only used 2-3 ounces of weight per tire to get them balanced. Road noise is about what you would expect with this type of tread. They are a little noisy at low speeds, but once you get above 35-40 MPH, they quieten down.

I have now had them on for 4000 miles, and they seem to be great tires so far - especially for the price. Mine were on BFG AT TA KO cores. We have only had wet weather and icy weather so far since I got them, no snow yet. But they had great traction in wet and the icy stuff. I even tried to break them loose in the water and they still stuck to the pavement.

Original Mileage: 21,675
Original Tread Depth: 14/32"

1st Rotation: 25,625
RF - 12/32
RR - 11/32
LF - 12/32
LR - 12/32

This is the rotation pattern that I use. I will follow that pattern every time.

I checked each tire at the inner edge, middle, and outer edge. Each tire wore evenly and measured the same for inner, outer, and middle. I will note any uneven wear as I go.

Well, I sadly took the Treadwright tires off my KJ today. Not because I had any problems, or dislike for them. I just got a smokin' deal on CL for some practically new 31's. Been wanting larger, so I couldn't pass it up.

So here is the end of the review.

Mileage at time of removal: 28,880
Total miles on these tires: 7,205
Tread depth at time of removal
RF - 11/32
RR - 10/32
LF - 10/32
LR - 11/32

I have now driven them in snow and muddy/sloppy conditions. They had great traction no matter what conditions I was driving in. The only complaint that some may have with them is the road noise. However they are not as loud as MTR's. It really didn't bother me. I pretty much expected the noise with the large and aggressive lugs. Judging from the tread wear to this point. It looks like they would have lasted about 30k miles or so. Really not too bad for the price of these tires.

Hope this review helps someone else make their decision in the future.

I agree, on cars, trucks and semi's. Nothing like dodging the chucks of tire as they fly off a semi!

seems like a lot of preconceived notions about retreads. First most all you see the gators along side the roads are from semis which was
A) either way over loaded
or
B) had a leak and the tire pressure went way low, the tire heated up and then the tread came off.
Tires that are use for retreading go through several tests to test the strenghth of the carcass before it is allowed to be retreaded. More than 55/60 % or more are rejected. I have worked in a Retread shop (in the 70s) , my cousin still owns one and that business has been around since back in the 50s. Retreaded tires may not be for everyone, but they do serve a purpose and are a great value. They will not get the mileage that a new tire gets but at less than half the price are still a great deal :wink:

I have a set of 245/75 mt retreads from the same place and I have about 15k on them and they are wearing great and I have had zero problems with them. Im 99% sure when I need new tires Ill go through them again

I believe I paid about $20 per tire, it came to $90 for each tire shipped, I was like long_tall_texan for that price its well worth a shot. sadly though I just rotated them last oil change about 1.5 weeks ago but the tread seemed to be about the same on all the tires.

I would highly recommend them! and they came with a 30k warranty if you keep up on all your balances and rotations....which I didnt but thats ok

do some reading on Power Stroke Registry Summer 08 and Fall 08 issues, not sure of website but???
Moabjeeper has 3 or 4 articles,
Expedition Portal just type in Treadwright or retreads some great reading as well. Lots of Disco owners are running them.

After I finish paying for something thats going on top of mine :wink: ,
I will have two 265-70s coming from Treadwright in the BFG AT tread pattern to try, already have two waiting :wink:

Then also will be getting (4) 235-85-16s in the Extra Grips from
Stone Tire www.stonetire.com @ 65 bucks each for cheap off road tires.

Like I said in the original post, I read until I couldn't find anything else to read about this company. they were HiTech Retreading before changing names to Treadwright. I have seen nothing but positive comments about their tires. They have also kept up with emerging technologies in this industry and use only the best cores as Tom pointed out. Then they vulcanize the new molded tread onto the old cores which makes it practically as strong as a new tire would be. The treads that usually fly off on the highway are like Tom said, and are usually not re-vulcanized the way these are. At this point, I will have no hesitation to put another set of these on my KJ. I'd even trust them enough to put them on my wife's Suburban - and probably will.

My 235/75R15's were $17 each to ship. And they were only $53 per tire when I bought them.

Retreads are fine for the rears if you are going to run retreads at all BUT SHOULD NEVER BE RAN ON THE FRONT.... Even the semi's use retreads on the rear only. Just think about it, if the tread comes off the front while going 70 +MPH, just a disaster waiting to happen.

funny stuff :lol: :lol: :lol: lots of difference there between the way truck tires are done ( retreaded) and regular retreads for passenger vehicles

Do some more reading on the subject please, there is a reason for not running on trucks none for passenger vehicles

NOW I know this will turn into a big old flame fest but facts are facts, maybe 40 years ago this was true, but not today
