I know this must have been beaten to death already but the search doesn't like numbers. I have 31x10.50x15's on my Cherokee and I'm thinking about putting them on my KJ, along with a lift. Are there any brake clearance issues with this? How much backspacing do I need to have on an 8" wide wheel?

Thanks!

15" steel wheels will work. 15" alloys won't clear the brakes. You need 16's in allow wheels. I am running 31x10.50x15's on 15x7 Cragar Black D's with 4" BS. That would be equivalent to 5" BS on an 8" rim.

Would that be equivilant to 5" of backspacing? Or 4.5"? You are measuring backspacing to only one side of the rim and the entire rim is 1" wider. So wouldn't there be 1/2" on the inside and 1/2" on the outside?

Well, not exactly. On our KJs, you are concerned about the outer edge of the wheel rubbing on the fenders. So, if you are measuring BS, which is from the inner rim lip, then a 15x7 with 4" BS will stick out the same as a 15x8 with 5" BS. One more tidbit of info... If you are going to be airing down to wheel, you would be safer to go with 7" width rim. You will have a lot less chance of your tire popping off the bead with a 7" width.
