Post subject:  tires size

Am having a tuff time deciding between 245/75/r16 or a 31x10.5xR15. I am going with the treadwright MTR's. The 245 is a load range E, while the 31x10.5 is a load range C. They are relatively the same tire size, but what would the weight difference be. Would the weight cause a performance issue, MPG, etc. And also I am going with a soft 8, 7 inch rim with, and 4' BS. Thanks

Personally I would go with the 31" 15's. A lot more choices, the LR C is a much better fit than the E unless you tow. Weight will vary by each make and model of tire. the few I looked at the 31 was a few pounds lighter.

IIRC you'll need 3.75" BS with the 15" rim to ensure there are no issues with the brake calipers, may be wrong, someone else can confirm either way.

Thanks for the reply maybe someone will chime in and say that about the rims.

I have the Cragar Black D's (same basic wheel as Soft 8). I am running 15x7 with 4" BS no problems. I have heard some that went with 3.75 and maybe even 3,5 BS and up to 4.5 BS.

I ran 31x10.50x15 for a while with no problems. Just bumped up to 32x11.50x15 and had to trim just a hair more of the fender liner, and it is now clearing just fine too. I have a Daystar 2.5" lift, plus a 3/8" top spacer plate, plus 3/8" clevis lift.

I got the 31x10.5xR15 Treadwright MT/Rs... They're awesome. Depending on what you do, expect to pounch the pinch welds and trim a lot of bumper. Mine was the BDS coils and about 2/8" Clevis lift. I put them on 15x8 Cragar Soft 8's, and so far so good.

Just as a note, Treadwright tells you to add in the "Order Notes" that if you want matching casings, put it there. The MT/R pattern is the Goodyears... But they gave me a BFG AT casing  . Not a problem with me, but I'd put a little note in there you want matching GOODYEAR MT/R casings. That way you won't look as weird as me.

Double Post ... But I will add that the 15" rim is a very tight fit, but obviously works. I was scaring the people who were helping me put on the lift, visually they thought it wasn't going to happen.

Mines the 15x8 with 4" BS.
