So how big can I go and keep the stock spare tire mount? I have the daystar lift (Thanks All-j!) and it's goin' on this weekend. I just am wondering if I would have a problem with 265/75s or 235/85s on the stock rear gate mount?

Thanks! 8)

sorry i can't answer your question, BUT....this is an interesting question. I think the real issue is whether the glass will be able to clear the tire, and whether it'll contact the bumper. You might be able to get a wheel extender possibly, or maybe find some longer lugs and put a spacer in to mount the tire further from the tailgate. Again, I have no clue, but I just find this to be a very interesting topic.

245/75s clear easily. I seem to remember a post about fitting the mount upside down allowed for a slightly bigger tire as it angles it away from the glass.

I am not too worried if the glass doesn't clear (swinging the gate open cures that), I was concerned more about the tire clearing the cut out in the rear bumper.

FWIW stock Mechanika wheels, so no add'l backspacing from a Moab wheel or similar.

This should fix that problem:

Now all you need to worry about is how much weight you want on that swing gate.

the tire extender seems to do bad things to the rear gate; it adds more outward stress on the sheet metal. i wouldn't recommend it. a 245x75 will fit on the rear door without problems.

I have 235/85/16's and have had them for over 2 years with no problems to the rear door. The window won't open but, I placed a few washers behind the stock mount to push it out and haven't had any issues with it at all and the window opens just fine.
Hope that helps.

I'd go with the RRO spacer. If you look at my cardomain link you can see if you like it. I love it b/c i can still pop the back window. The spacer lifts up, and pushes out the tire. I have had it for 5, 000 miles with no problems to the rear gate.

My 245/75/16 Revo's clear everything. 265/75/16 likely would not.

That's why I can't wait for the RockLizard rear bumper with carrier. :D

Thanks guys...

I got the rear of the daystar on today myself...

My hired help (BBQ and beer :D ) comes tomorrow to help with the front

Then off to Sears for the Generals in 235/85s. If the glass touches the tire, that's the least of my worries. I just wanted to make sure it cleared the bumper and swing gate itself

:)
