Post subject:  Can I do away with the TPMS?

(06 Liberty CRD Limited)

It's been cold and my Low tire pressure light has been staying on (for like a day, everything looked visually ok). So at lunch I pulled it into the shop to check the pressure and fill them. I get around to the second one, fill it, and when I pulled the chuck off it took part of the valve stem and valve came off, deflating my tire completly in under a second. Of course you can imagine what I said next. So I put on the spare and drove across the street to where we out-source our tire work, only to have them say they wouldn't do it because of the sensor and I had to take it to the dealer. Dealer wanted $60 labor plus $60 for the sensor.

I don't want this stuff on my vehicle anyways. It's just something else that (has) broken, expensive to replace, and totally unnecessary. I could just put a regular valve stem in it, but, I don't want to deal with the annoying beeping and messages that my tire pressure is low. I want to disable it right, so, is there a separate module I can disconnect? Or, is there a way to "trick" the computer into thinking the tires are full of air? Or course, the dealer had no idea what I was talking about and didn't think it could be done.

What are my options here?

While I'm on a rant about modern electronics in vehicles, we received over a foot of snow a few weeks ago. For one, I have no idea what the point of the ESP was for. I know how to drive in the snow and it really seemed to hinder vehicle operation. Same with the ABS braking. I kept the Liberty parked most of the time and used the CJ7. It had better traction, turned better, braked better, and I didn't have to worry about destroying the front bumper on a snow bank. Wasn't as warm as the Liberty though..... I know one thing, when the tires on the Liberty need replaced I'm going with BFG A/T's.

Ok, that's enough of that. How do I kill this crap?

In 2006 models does it effect anything but turning on an indicator light? In my '05 the light was bugging me and I complained. Next time I saw 1996xj, he took apart my instrument cluster, shoved and vacuum plug in the little cavity in front of that LED (behind the part you can see) and now no more dummy light.

For some reason I heard something about some years it cut your power or turned off cruise or some crap. If that's the case then I don't think covering up the light is the answer.

Finally, the tires need replaced NOW. They just plain suck. Get someone to buy them from you and put it toward just about anything else.

EDIT: I think they added ESP because they found that 98% of the demographic that drive libertys need all the help they can get.

Don't think so? I'm not including people on here. I'm including the little old lady down the street though...

Oh, I know. I wouldn't down the people here. But it's true. I have yet to see another Liberty driver (especially KK's) that doesn't have a businessman chewin on donuts and talking on his phone while driving a dead stock Jeep. Or, a female older person doing about 10 under the speed limit everywhere.

It is sad. On the flip side, (around here) I see tons of Rubicons driven by some seriously warped aholes. They get pissed if you even look at them. XJ guys though, seem to be great. WJ's too. Lots more XJ's here though. Those folks are pretty cool (the ones that have modded their rides).

Driving with the cruise on with my 245/75R16 tires will trigger that traction control. It kills power to the engine and it also shuts off the cruise control. Mine is an 06'.

So no ideas yet??

If anyone can get me some schematics and diagrams of the system I'll be more then happy into trying to find out. Just trying to make it easy for myself it that's possible.

The main reason I got the Liberty was for the diesel engine. I actually really liked the Commanders, but the Hemi used way too much gas and the 3.7 was far too underpowered. Didn't care much for the Grand Cherokee, and hated the engine in the new Wrangler.

Still don't care for all of this junk on the Liberty. Next up is bypassing the seat belt switch so when I'm driving around the campground, work lot, apartment complex, or our property it doesn't drive me crazy....... My CJ doesn't even have a dinger in it.

You can't kill it,your stuck with it thanks to idiots that failed to check there air pressure in there tires, same goes with ESP and ABS(people that never learned how to drive).

you can turn off the seat belt chime if only you looked in the owners manual... or read the cards that were enclosed with it.
